we need to update our phones but there is 2.4 gig 5.5 gig and 8.sumtin out there whats the best for cordless apps with little or no chance of privcy loss or static interferince both for the phone and other electronics in the area

Your best bet is going to be the 5 ghz band. The 2.4 band has been around for awhile and is getting very crowded.(ie wireless network devices, wireless audio, and phones). You'll get the same same coverage under ideal conditions from both but with the 2.4 band crowding, 5 ghz will get you more for the money.
