No on SB1152 yet another hugely expensive bill that will do NOTHING to reduce crime or to hold criminals responsible for their crimes. Setting up the huge system to record what adults have bought handgun ammunition for the handguns that are ALREADY registered is nothing short of a fraudulent waste of government effort and my tax dollars.
Damn they just don't give up huh. This might have the effect of shutting down Internet sales of pistol ammo too. Looks like I need a few more 800 round packs of .45 this weekend. |

I think the real intent is to make it such a PITA for ammo sellers. I think they want to drive themout of business. I know thats what they are doing to gun dealers already there. They can't ban all the guns so they will put all dealers ofguns and ammo out of business.

That is the way that the United States used to be prior to the FOPA of 1986! Except for .22lr, your purchase of ammunition was duly recorded, along with all the info on your driver's license anytime that you purchased any amount of ammo at a retail store! I can't possibly see what effect this will have on people commiting crimes. It's just going to cost CA a truckload of money to implement and manage a stupid system like this. Hopefully Arnold will see the folley in it and not sign it along with that .50 ban. Also, how is this going to stop anybody from going to Nevada or Arizona to make a bulk purchase and then taking it back home?

Yeah, just like they do now for a handgun purchase. It's a TOTAL joke. You do it yourself on the back of the DROS form (just a plain white sheet of paper). Ever seen what a self-made thumbprint looks like on plain white paper. Shit it looks like (it also doesn't help if you don't try too hard to make a good one )As bookertbab pointed out, it's all about harrasment of law-abiding gun owners and giving pols talking points. It has ZERO to do crime and everything to do with involving the state in more and more of its citizens lives. |

In 1980 when I got my first AR-15, they used to write down ID information every time ammo was purchased. This happened at more than one gun store in Los Angeles. I asked about it once, and I was told that it wasn't really required, but they did it to keep ahead of the game with DOJ and ATF.
This is by no means the end of ammo sales in Kalifornia. |

We have such a law here in Hawaii. Not as bad but always on the books as far as I remember. You need to register for a permit every time you buy more than 500 rounds. To avoid this most retail stores only allow you to get 10 boxes max at a time. So any time there is a sale on 7.62 wolf I can only get 200 rounds a visit a day. Really sucks.

They have been trying to get an ammo tax passed for a few years. They finally figured out that it wasn't going to happen since a tax increase requires a 2/3rd vote. They rewrote the bill using some weasel words to make it "not a tax". So far it hasn't gotten very far but they keep trying. Oh, BTW the "tax" (which is what it is) was 10 cents PER COMPONENT at one time (not sure if that got changed). Think about it. 10 cents for the primer, 10 cents for the case and 10 cents for the bullet (I don't think they figured out a way to tax the powder  ). THIRTY CENTS added to EACH round sold in-state. The "justification" used for this was that the "tax" was to be used to reimburse hospitals for all the gunshot cases they treat. So far none none of the insanity applies to mail order/internet sales and they're not searching vehicles as you enter the state... YET. |

Exactly. Make no mistake --- this is racketeering at a legislative level, nothing less. The sole purpose of this bill is to force California FFL's to relocate or fold. Period. The way the bill is written, the business owner will NOT be reimbursed for the time and hassle of fingerprinting, keeping records, et al. Which means they'll have to pass the costs on to the consumers. Which in turn, of course, means more and more buyers will start shopping out of state. And this, now, at a time when California is billions in the red and needs every penny of sales tax it can grab. Even Arnold -- or perhaps particularly Arnold, since he's very business savvy --- should be able to see this. |
