well yall, tonight is the last night of my r&r, its been fun. had a shoot here in mich, met a few cool members. basically had a very good time.

just wanted to take the time a reflect a little, this site has offered me alot of support, between the letters, and boxes from adopt a platoon, to the good friends ive made. id also liek to express my thanks to the general public for the support they have been showing soldiers home on leave, strangers have gone out of their way to accomodate me when i needed things.

all in all its a very strange experience for someone who came into the military in the mid 90s when noone gave a shit.

i guess mainly i would like to thank those of you out there who have provided it for your support.
its greatly appreciated.

on the other hand i think the hardest part about leave will be leaving my wife again, her strength amazes me, we have been married for 2 years, but only able to spend about 6 months of it together.
however this is my job and my country has called me, so love it or hate it im off to the nastiest place on earth for another  6 months.

not sure how to wrap this up, but i felt some kind of thanx for yals support was in order.

thanx

You will be in my thoughts, along with all the others there. I don't know what I would do if I had to go there again. I would go, because I made the commitment to serve my country, but I wouldn't be happy about it.

Good luck.

Thank you for your service, and I also thank those who love you for giving you up to go to Iraq. My hub was in the military, and I know how awful it feels when someone is called out. Good luck, and get home safe.

PS - When my hub was in the service, we only spent about 24 months out of four years of marriage together. Parting is awful, but the reunion will be nice. Send her goofy notes, and emails. Also send her a little sand in an envelope. My hub sent little candles, and seashells. I know service people don't have much money to spend, and in certain areas have no place to spend it, but it is the thought that counts.

Bless you....not just now while you're here...not just when you're there....not just when you come home......

but Forever.

"Tommy"
Rudyard Kipling

I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer,
The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
   O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
   But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play,
   The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
   O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
   For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
   But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
   The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
   O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
   Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
   But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
   The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
   O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
   While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind",
   But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind,
   There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
   O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind.

You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
   For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
   But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
   An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
   An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!

Going back absolutely sucks, doesn't it?

I never wanted to desert as badly as the day I had to travel to Ramstein at the end of my 2 weeks of R&R, in Basic, or OCS.

Oh well. I guess I wouldn't be human if I actually liked the place...
