Dearborn Police Officer Shot At During Traffic Stop
Car Flees From Police

-- A Dearborn police officer escapes serious injury after he's shot at during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon, according to Local 4 reports.  

Police say the officer, driving an unmarked car, witnessed a carjacking and followed a Dodge Durango and a black Cadillac Escalade.

The officer pulled the Durango over in the area of St. Mary's and Ellis Streets on Detroit's west side, near the Dearborn-Detroit border, at about 3:30 p.m., according to the station's reports.

Police say the driver jumped out of the Durango and started shooting at the officer.

The officer was not hit by the gunfire but suffered cuts to his face from glass when the bullets struck the windows on his vehicle
, Local 4 reported.

The officer was taken to Oakwood Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The alleged gunman sped away from the scene in the Durango, according to the station's reports.

Police say he later abandoned the Durango in a Detroit neighborhood and jumped into the Escalade, driven by a woman.

Police are still searching for the two.
