One of the greatest I ever received was at summer camp.

Now, pull your minds out of the gutter.  One of my duties was to clean the bathrooms on Saturday morning after the campers had left.
The maintenance manager would check and make sure they were done, and done well, before we were dismissed for the weekend.

Me and the future Mrs B had just finished the bathrooms in one area of the camp.  Maint. Mgr asked, "Did you to clean the bathrooms in the Outpost?"
"Yes."
"Good, then I don't have to check them."

Always nice to be trusted.

about a week ago i left work and stopped at wal-mart. jumped out of the truck, stuck my maroon blanket on my head and wiped my boots off on the back of my bdu's. elderly couple stopped me right about then and said " we just want you to know we're very proud of the young people fopr what ya'll are doin, and we love ya'll". she gave me a hug and a kiss and the old man shook my hand.
"why thank you folks". i was giddy all day.

When I lived in northern PRK I had a salesman from the competition, in front of a group of people, say to me, "You're so smooth you could sell ice cubes to Eskimos".

Another higher up in the company complimented me on my "neverending sagacity".

And I've had quite a few women compliment me on my manners and chivalry. (I remind them I'm NOT a nice guy, though)

For me, it was always when my ex girlfriend's mother and father would introduce me to other folks with the words "there aren't many young men of his caliber". I was the guy they hoped she would marry. Too bad she turned into a headcase. I really liked her folks as well. They were a great family. Too bad she wasn't. LOL. But being respected by parents of the teenage girls you date is about the biggest compliment I ever got. Of course that has been a few moons ago.

The greatest compliment that someone can pay to you is to say that they want to be like you.

For example, your son stating, "I want to grow up to be just like you, Dad!"

<smartass answer>Unintended Consequences author John Ross wrote that the best compliment he had ever received was from a man who started reading UC on the airplane while flying to Hawaii for his honeymoon.

He pissed his new bride off by finishing the book at the hotel before,... well, you get the idea.

What author could want more?</smartass answer>

That's damn cool.

The best compliment I ever get is from my wife or my kids when they tell me that they appreciate all I do for them.  Not being taken for granted is the best compliment I could ever hope for.

And today at the bank, the lady behind the counter said my gray hair looked distinguished on me.

Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas...

The greatest compliment I ever got was when I was getting my kennel license.

I had to bring my three little kids to the township hall and convince some old
guys that having 40 sled dogs at my farm would be ok.

One guy took a look at the back of the hall where my 3 youngins were quietly coloring
and said;

"If he raises dogs as well as he raises children then I don't have any problem"

LivefreeordieNH,
I understand the humor in the pic you posted,
but it always breaks my heart to see someone
making fun of retarded people.
When I was a kid, I knew a girl who was retarded.
All the other children were absolutely merciless to her.
They came up with the most cruelest comments anyone could make towards her.
I would always try to defend her, but they didn't care. Assholes.
She was the most sweetest and gentlest person I have ever met in my life.
She was an angel.
She didn't ask to be born that way, and neither did her parents.
I am guilty of posting that Special Olympics argument pic myself.
I realized what I did, and I will never do that again.
All I ask is if you could try to realize that too.
Sorry.

I have many things that have made me beam with pride for my accomplishments---I have no children of my own, but the statement above, has to be the ultimate.
