At least 2 of Kerry's DD-214s are available at this Pro-Kerry, Anti-Bush site.  Some other documents are also available but, unfortunately, not enough.  Looking over what is there (and not re-hashing merit) there are some clearly documented things I don't understand given the limited information made available:

Purple Heart #1 for an injury sustained during action on 2 December 1968
Purple Heart #2 for an injury sustained during action on 20 February 1969
1 Silver Star (no "V") for meritorious action 8 days later on 28 February 1969

1 Bronze Star with "V" for meritorious action on 13 March 1969
Purple Heart #3 for an injury sustained during action 10 days later on 23 March 1969

<"Visits" with enemy government officials in Paris in 1971 - other references>
Active duty or active reserve military officer until at least 01 March 1972

Honorable (?) discharge on 16 February 1978 but no associated DD-214 found at this website
Grand total (Gridley plus Swiftboat) sea duty (only some is service time in the combat zone) is 1 year and 7 months
Credited for 5 campaign periods (over 30 years after-the-fact via a DD215)

<ETA>  Leaving for work so why do I puke when "All gave some"?  I've color coded what seem to be obvious fallacies in logic about this guy's official records that relate to one-another.
