Hit Borders after work today to pick up some reading material for the
This is what I bought The Horse (underground biker mag0 Iron Works (another biker mag) Architectural Review Anthem by Ayn Rand For Whom the Bell Tolls by Hemmingway Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut Basket Case by Carl Hiaasen I shoulda picked up a rap album while I was at it but I forgot they had CDs upstairs. |
I notice that you made proper use of italics and underlining there. Very impressive. Very un-arfcommer-like. |
Damn higher education! |
Borders is the official test site for all SteyrAUG social experiments.
And no matter what I'm getting I always grab a copy of The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. |
He thinks rules like that are "design specs," so he has them memorized. |
I get some funny looks too...my typical magazine purchase looks something like this:
Skeptical Inquirer Scientific American Outdoor Photographer Cinescape True West Backpacker Arizona Highways Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement |
I once bought a Guns & Ammo mag at Barnes & Noble and the
asshat at the register asked me if I was the kind of person who murdered people. I just said no. |
My wife (the teacher) applauds you! |

I almost picked that one up too, woulda really helped I'm sure. |
Fixed it for you. |

Didya? I woulda called the manager over and had the guy written up for being rude. Then I would have called corporate HQ the next day and did my damndest to have the guy fired. |
Right then and there I would have asked for a manager and gotten that asshat fired. What's he gonna ask some guy buying a sex book...? "What's wrong, no good in bed?" What's he gonna ask a woman buying a book about relationship issues? "What's the deal, can't keep a guy around?" Any asshat that comments on my choice of reading material shouldn't be working in a bookstore. |
Last time i went to Borders the guy thought i whas ether a Gaurdsman or a crazed milita member, proley becus i got this stuff:
Soldier of Forchen PC Gamer SWAT A History of the Wafen SS Janes Modern Guns Janes Modern Fighting Vehicles and a set of the SAS suvival guides Music: Ballads of the Green Berets |
Only thing better are the jackoffs at Blockbuster who critique my movie selection. "Oh good a minimum wage flunkie likes it so I'm sure to enjoy it." You are not a movie critic, you get paid to put the movie in the bag. Thank god for Netflix. |

I think I read it here a few years back - but the best reply is, "only those who ask STUPID questions." |
Is that right? I've always thought that both served the same function, that italics are preferable if available, and that mixing the two in one piece of writing is bad form. |
The correct answer is "Yes. Everybody is." |
You're missing the logic at work behind the commentary. Quentin Tarantino (sp?) was a video store clerk. Quentin Tarantino's opinions are valued by vast numbers of people. () Therefore, the opinions of video store clerks are valued by vast numbers of people. |

Want a strange look? But Soldier of Fortune, Best of Penthouse Forum, and a Dr Suess book. the clerk still remembers me......
I buy it too...I was just giving a representative sample. |
You'll like Anthem. It is an easy read for an Ayn Rand book.
Rush' album 2112 is based on that book. |

You should have picked up catcher in the rye and really set off some alarms. |
You should have demanded to see the manager. Make a stink- these asshats only get away with what they are ALLOWED to get away with.... |
I once bought "One Shot, One Kill" and she looked at me like I was a criminal. She handled the book like it was a cactur or something....
I just wanted to get the hell out of there.
I could feel the invisible liberal passification gas taking effect while I was in there. |
I once bought a special edition magazine by Guns & Ammo on ASSAULT WEAPONS and the cashier at TARGET didnt say hello or thank you, she just took my money and shoved the mag in the bag and threw it on the counter and gave me a disgusted look
You really want the lady behind the counter at Borders to look at you funny here are a few that will raise an eyebrow.
120 Days of Sodom - Marquis de Sade Incest - Marquis de Sade |
I can relate to this. I just picked up: G&A's Book of the AR-15 The Complete Guide to AR-15 Accuracy (Very good for the High-Power crowd)) Thomas the Tank Engine: The Cranky Day They were sold out of Unfit for Command. |
That's when you ask for the manager. |
It was the gas, OK?!?!? Jeez! |
... anything by eminem or D12 would be fine |
I didn't find it incredibly interesting, to be honest. I mean, I don't disagree with their conclusions, but I'd never heard of the whole business about UFO nuts saying UFOs were around in medieval paintings, so it didn't have much cache with me. |

You should have seen the looks I got when I asked for More Guns Less Crime.

And this my friends is the sole reason I try my best NOT to buy subscriptions.
I absolutely believe in buying my gun mags at the local stores so that I have to walk up to the cashier and present it personally. The best times are when all of the soccer moms are in buying groceries and ahead of them at the checkout is me with all of my gun mags, face up, on the conveyor. Large chain bookstores come in for extra attention as they mostly carry mags that the local supermarkets do not, in that case I make a point of driving a reasonable distance to make them squirm behind the counter. Someone at my local supermarket likes to place other magazines over the firearm related issues, I look like an employee as I tidy the place up. Call me crazy as it is an almost daily occurrence for me, but it surely must piss off the anti that is trying to censor the rest of us and that is my point... |

Break into my house, threaten my family and find out Mutha-Fucka! |

The real correct answer is "Not since I got out of the asylum!" BigDozer66 |

Is that what you kids are calling high school now a days? |

We don't have those kind of ASSHATS in Texas. BigDozer66 |

That's unbelievable. Really! I don't believe you! Just kidding. Sort of. |

My mom dropped a box of hydro-shocks in a Borders Books bout 3 years ago.
It aint her fault... its like right down the road from the gun store and they were in her pocket. - BUCC_Guy |

I have read all of Hiaasen's books and have really enjoyed them. I was walking though an airport last week and in a book store I saw that he has another book out, which is still only in hard cover. I will buy it soon. |

I stopped in at Hastings to get a couple books the other day.
I had to go to the College town 20 miles from my hometown because no one in my hometown has/had "Unfit for Command". I stopped in and found it but decided to check out some others. Unfit for Command by John E. O'Neill and Jerome R. Corsi, Ph. D. The Battle of Mogadishu by Matt Eversmann and Mark Bowden The Name by Franklin Graham Steady On by Point of Grace The Price of Freedom by Michael W. Smith Pilates for Every Body by Denise Austin I walk past a couple elderly guys talking and one was saying "I was over there looking at that new Molly Ivins book but I'm getting tired of all the political talk so I decided against it." I said "Your IQ drops 10 points everytime you read drivel like that!" Then I said "Did you see that new book Al Frankens book about Democrats? It is titled 'Lies and the lying liars that tell them!'"
