Hola. I've installed Counterstrike and whenever I attempt to play online it gives me this error message:

"Could not load Library

C:/sierra/counter-strike/cstrike/cl_dlls/client.dll"

I'm attempting to fix it but no luck. I've restarted the computer, re-installed, and still no luck.

Would appreciate any help...

Taxman's advice worked. I'm not having the same error now. however, I can't load the server list. It flashes on for a breif second, you know, the screen that says x-many servers downloaded etc.

-You need to install Steam to play any form of Half-Life multiplayer online, including CS.

-That error normally occurs when your version of HL/CS is out of date, in my experience.

I am very sure that I've got the up to date version of CS. My update patch filename is CSV15FULL.exe, file size 124 mb. I've searched all over for a more up to date patch but I still haven't found one....

Are you trying to run CS without Steam? If so, you won't be able to play online period. Also I believe the newest version is 1.6.

How can not having STEAM prevent me from playing online? I've played before, without Steam. Worked fine.

Because VALVe recently stopped all support of the old WON server authentication system. All Half-Life games are now only able to be played online via Steam.

So you mean the WON network simply fell apart because Valve stopped supporting it?

Yarrr. Going to have to leave a note with the Admin and ask for the password to be sent to my email....

As far as I know Valve paid WON for their server authentication service. When Valve rolled out Steam, they must have saw that as a waste of money, and simply stopped paying for a service they didn't need. I think WON is still used for some other games though.
