I have heard that it is a MONSTER to shoot. But this comes from the same guys who can't stand to put 300 rounds through their Model 29 w/ 6" barrel...or a 45 Colt for that matter. So that tells me that the guys I shoot with are a buncha wussies.
So...what do you guys that own them think? Is it a weapon that you carry a lot and shoot only a little? I posted this in the S&W forum...with zero results. Thought I'd try it here...  |

Lets compare:
S&W Mdl 19 (4" Steel K-frame) .357Mag 158gr @1350FPS -- 7.92 Free recoil energy in (ft/lbs) S&W 340 (2" Ti/Scan J-frame) .357Mag 158gr @1250FPS -- 19.26 Free recoil energy in (ft/lbs)  Ruger Super Redhawk .454 Casull 300gr @1500FPS -- 24.18 Free recoil energy in (ft/lbs) S&W 329 .44Mag 300gr. @1200fps -- 31.15 Free Recoil energy in (ft/lbs) S&W 329 .44Spl 220gr. @900fps -- 10.23 Free Recoil energy in (ft/lbs)  Ther are other factors to consider like the width and shape of the grips but my bet is NASTY! |

It is not that bad. I have a Mountain gun in .44 mag I think it is worse than the 329. Granted, neither gun is what I would call fun to shoot. My hand hurts after 5 rounds out of either gun, but it is tolerable.
Of course I don't consider myself a recoil weenie either.

I shot my cousin's. Surprisingly easy to hit with, I didn't find the recoil punishing.
I shoot a 629 with the 8-3/8 barrel. I didn't find the 329 to be to much worse. Certainly not as hard as my Encore in 7mm-08. Follow up shots will be a bit slow. It's surprising when you pick it up, hard to believe it's so light. If I wanted to carry something that large, I'd get one! |

That's good info...thanks. So...carry it with 44 Spl rounds in it...but with the ability to use 44 mag to make the 200 yard head shot. j/k

All I know is that after 50 rounds of .44 mag through my 4" Stainless 629, I had had more than enough to last me awhile.
I cant imagine the 329. |

Shot a brand new one with the wood grips still on it and some very hot ammo. It was about 100 degrees in the range which made it hard to hang onto. The recoil was brutal my hand hurt for days. I could shoot it very well SA but the DA groups were suprisingly tight. With 44special the reoil was alot less noticable. I imagine the Hogue grips help some but the exposed back stap still stings. But I still want one!
