Someone sent me this in an email ... did anyone actually see the interview?
UPDATE: here is the actual transcript, the email I got is not accurate: msnbc.msn.com/id/5489846/ I'll bet this one will never see the light of day again. Denzel Washington needs to get on FOX News or Meet The Press.... even Tim Russert would at least listen to this guy. Did any of you see the Denzel Washington interview with Katie Couric on NBC last Friday morning (13 August 2004)? Not many people are talking about it. I assume the super libs are wishing it would go away and are trying to sweep it under the rug. Meryl Streep and Denzel were on the today show "live" with Katie Couric to talk about the movie "Manchurian Candidate." At one point Katie asked Denzel, "have you seen Fahrenheit 9/11?" To which Denzel replied, "No, and I have no intentions on seeing it." Katie and Meryl were " noticeably" taken aback! It was so cool! Then, a discourse (or more preferably, a fight!) began between all three of them with Denzel being barraged with all kinds of anti-Bush, anti-republican comments, but "the man stood his ground" and soon enraged the women so much that they couldn't get a word in edgewise. Meryl Streep turned blood red and she sat with her legs crossed and her one leg shaking up and down, fuming! Then Katie uttered the words that put the final nail in her coffin, she said to Denzel "you see, that's the problem I have with "you people." She of course did not get to finish her sentence because Denzel pounced on her verbally by responding "YOU PEOPLE! YOU PEOPLE! Just what do you mean you people? Do you mean "You People" as in me as a Christian, or do you mean "You People" as in me as a REPUBLICAN? I would have thought he would have hit her on the racial thingy...It sure offended me the way she said it... Then she tap danced her way through the next minute of the show. But Denzel went out fighting and declaring that Fahrenheit 9/11 is nothing but propaganda and lies distorted to support a cynical democrat film director's twisted views of America and the World. There is one movie star the super libs can't mess with. |

I think that many black Americans would be shocked at how many Democrats use the term " You People ". Come to think of it, I have only heard that term from people I knew to be Democrats. Republicans in general are more diverse in thought, and far more polite in public.

WOW!
I saw Denzel Washington interviewed by Tavis Smiley, and was impressed with the depth and openness of his talk about his faith. I didn't know he was actually a non-communist. I can only fault him for one thing: I would have figured out a way to say the opposite of whatever made Meryl Streep cross her legs. You can't convert by injection if their legs are crossed. |

He IS an Academy Award winning actor. |

The entire transcript is here: msnbc.msn.com/id/5489846/ <snip> Couric: "Denzel, are you-- do you feel-- you know some people say Hollywood folks should stick to acting." Washington: "I don't know what Hollywood folks are, first of all. Hollywood is a town that has some stars on the sidewalk. I don't know anybody from there. So, I don't-- that's like saying-- calling you a type of folks. I'm not a Hollywood folk. I don't know who they are." Couric: "Okay, all right, well, let me rephrase the question. Are you one of those people that—" Washington: "Ah, there you go. Am I one of those people? Hmmm, isn't that interesting?" Couric: "Oh, stop, stop, stop." Washington: "No, don't stop. I heard what you just said. "Am I one of those people?" No, I'm not." Couric: "No, are you an actor who would rather not—" Washington: "No, I'm not that either. I'm a human being. My job is acting." |

Yes, I saw that interview and the exchanges between the participants were shocking and expected.
Good for Denzel! |
Me too. I'd be surprised if he was a republican, especially considering "Manchurian Candidate" kind of makes the Republicans look like commies (The original anyway, I haven't seen Denzel's version). Edit: If he is a Christian and a Republican then good for him! I may be seeing more of his movies. |

7 words that have never before held so much meaning... |
Regardless of his politics, I like most of his movies. If his politics agree with mine, then so much the better.
I remember where I read something earlier...it was about his movie John Q, where the guy's son has a heart condition and insurance won't cover it. I think I read something then about how he thought we should have socialized medicine. Maybe I am wrong or took his comments the wrong way though, I don't know for sure.

Hrmm. Better read the whole transcript:

I'm sure he meant "descendant of slaves." Look at the context.
In other words "I am multimillionaire descendant of slaves. Screw you, you anti-American buffoon." |

Maybe Denzel was at one point a democrat, but no so much a liberal. Perhaps the actions of the far left and the party's migration in that direction was cause for him to switch. Maybe his faith and the left's actions collided and he saw the light. Or maybe he just saw through the bullshit and was sick of it.
Either way, if this is true, I now have another name to add to my small (but growning!) list of celebrities that I have great respect for. I'm happy it's about time someone put that socialist slut Katie Couric in her place. Had she known Denzel was no "regular" Hollywood type, I bet he would have never been interviewed, or at least not asked for political opinion. Hell, maybe these actors can help us a bit. The womenz love Tom Selleck and Denzel. Maybe these soap watching liberal soccer moms will be converted in enough numbers to give us a great Republican victory come November! It's also a possibility even Tom Cruise is on our side, as he refused to answer the press's questions about his choice for president. He told them that was his personal business and none of their's. -CH |

Yeah, the email doesnt not accurately describe the actual interview ... he is somewhat neutral and leaning negative in the actual interview ... thanks for posting the transcript link!
Wow...I always thought he was a Liberal.
Good for Denzel...he was best in Glory....and I am waiting for Man on Fire due out on Netflix by Sept 14. |
It's obvious, that whatever he is, he isn't like most actors and celebrities. Or Today Show personalties. Hehe. And the fact that those lovable, tolerant liberals don't agree with him and are shocked by him, makes him an ally by default to some degree.

Sounds like he is drilling through the bullshit on BOTH sides in regards to treating our soldiers like the heroes they are -- forgetting for a minute that this isn't about why they are there --- they WERE there and they deserve our thanks.
I'm not sure I see him taking a stand in that interview, one way or the other -- though he is definitely leaning towards the right at that moment. YMMV........ |
He's a Friggin RACIST nuff said!!!! always has been! edit cause i kant spel |

Katie Clueless ya know the one that hit the wall HARD! |

I saw the original footage. Very interesting. I don't know what party Denzel belongs to, but I do know that he wasn't going to let Couric put words in his mouth. He gave me the impression that he is Christian and possibly a closet-Republican.
Ok, well how about you send me some of your 'evil' money??? Dumb bitch. |

Couric: "Okay, are you somebody who would rather not express his political views publicly? I mean how do you feel about that? Some people are more outspoken than others. And what I meant, are you one of the people who would rather keep it private? Don't make my questions loaded when they're not."
Washington: "Would I rather keep it private? No, I'm not one of those people. I think I speak what's on my mind." >>>Couric: "And how do you feel about the current political situation?" "Washington: "You know, I haven't seen ‘Fahrenheit 9/11,’ because I live in America. I grew up here. I'm an ex-slave. I'm a result of what this country can do. So it's nothing knew to me. I'm not surprised at all. It's just business as usual. What I want to talk about is, what are we doing right now, today, for these young kids that are coming home? Are we embracing them? I don't hear about them being lifted up. I mean, I'm not just talking about a parade but—" Couric: "Are they getting the support they need." Washington: "Are they getting the support and love they need from us? And maybe that story's being told, but I sure haven't seen it that much in the news. Yeah, they're pointing fingers about who was right and whose wrong and who started what and where the weapons of mass destruction. But these kids are coming home.">>> Well the only thing I see Washington as being for is that he thinks the returning soldiers should be recognized more for their sacrifice. Though I don't see him offering up his 19 year old to serve his country. Ok, the director's allusion to big corporations (ie. republicans, ie Bush) being worse than communism is an obvious dig, but who fucking cares what anyone from hollywood thinks . |
