altama was one manufacturer.
www.hikepa.com/gear/reviews/altama_jungle_boots.htm i see new ones surplus sales at $29 around these parts. the chinese clones have aan obviously non-mil spec sole lug pattern on them...at least the $20 copies i have seen. |

If they are comfortable, they aren't Chinese. That much I'm pretty sure of. The pair I bought feel like I have wooden 2x4's around my ankles. I've got a pair made by Altama I picked up in the mid 90's at a surplus store. I also have a pair of regular Altama boots. They seem nice. But about all I wear these days in the boot line are the newer 8" tactical Enforcer boots with the zipper in the side. The ones I wear now are the $49 type you get at Gall's. I think Bates makes them for Gall's, so you save about $10 just by switching the name on the tag. LOL. Plus they are so comfy and easy to get your foot into.

You have got the real deal. The words that you cannot make out say SPIKE PROTECTIVE. I have two brand new pairs in my closet, dated 8/88 and 5/89. They are exactly as you describe.

Agreed, you have the real ones....RoSearch is a company that used the DMS (direct-molded sole) machinery sold by Wellco Boot.
If you were to rip out the leather insole below that funky woven plastic "footpad" you'd find a pieve off sheet metal in the arch to protect from pungi stakes. |

Some unit still get issued Black jungles, they stopped the issue of green Jungle around 90/91 time frame.
A company called militarybootrepair.com can put some really nice soles on them for you, I sent them a pair and they feel great on my feet. |
