Does ANYBODY have information on REAL WORLD results of the stopping
power of this round? I've googled and come up with ZILCH for the last year.....
It's hated by Fackler......and if it was all it was cracked up to be you'd THINK FN
would be crowing about it from the rooftops...... but nothing proves anything till it gets in the
field...... ANYBODY heard anything?

Better than 9mm

Not better than .223

YMMV

Please explain...

In a subgun.  Not in a handgun.

Good for penetrating glass, body armor.  Has decent terminal ballistics.

Let me see if i can dig up a link to a video FN put out.  Pretty cool what the P90 can do.

Some very learned people in the field of wound ballistics dont agree with you on that.

The P90 is effective (when it is) primarily because it's easy to spray 10-15 round bursts into someone.  It's a nice small package and it does penetrate pistol-rated vests.  But the terminal ballistic performance of the ammo is lousy at best.

Take this same ammo and put it in a semi-auto pistol with an even shorter barrel, and you essentially have (from a wound potential standpoint) a .22LR that can penetrate vests.

Vest penetration aside, 5.7mm from a P90 doesn't even perform as well as 9mm FMJ, and that round is not known for being a great performer.

Here's my quesiton (since the expert is in the house).

Is a .223 from a SBR (like an AR with a 11.5 barrel) any better than a regular 9mm ?

Finally got the vid downloaded! Very sweet! The guys in the vid make mag changes look so simple. Based on what was said in the vid the round is perfect for the weapons intended use.

[kneels down]Santa, please bring me an FNP90 for Christmas?[/kneelsdown]

223 will fragment out to like 60 yards or so in a 11.5 barrel.  So I would say yes.  There is a chart out there somewhere that gives a break down.

Thanks - sorry I was too lazy to fine the chart.  Come to think of it, it was probably in Troy's Ammo FAQ all along

This has been talked into the dirt.  I doubt highly theres ANYONE on this board that has "real world" experience with it, and even if they did it'd be anecdotal at best.

damn buddy just trying to help here...

dont know about you .. but I would think that if it can do this to two phonebooks protected by a vest then it just MIGHT have SOME ability to stop violent aggression

but thats just me..

carry on.

BUT THEM phone books were coming right at us !!!

Troy you of course bring up a great point there .. we arnt made of phone books .

another question....

since the gelitin would be the best indicator of a real world encounter ... why hasent one been done? and if there has been one done... why arent the results posted EVERY for all to see... ? seems that would but this question to rest..

seems it would a. confirm a lot of nay sayers... or   b.  confrim its claim ..  < im assuming it claims to stop people and not just kill phone books..

and yes we can be learned..

but how can you compete with the purty pics of dead books?

ETA ..

can a LEO just pls go kill a dog so we can see the results? < sorry couldnt help it >

My 10/22 will shoot through two phone books. Still, I wouldn't consider it an effective mankiller.

No, but who gives a fuck, I have a 5.56 for shooting bad guys. So what if it goes through armor, it still only hits like a .22LR and armor is rare on bad guys.

Gelatin is fine but.....I was thinking more along the lines of, Officer "X" has used the P90
for 5 years in SWAT operations, and he say "Man, this thing is amazing!!!! I've never seen anything like it!!! I shot 3 guys in the chest on three seperate occasions, and they droped like pole axed cows!!! I'd never give mine up!!!!"

The fact that we HAVEN'T seen this makes me wonder....it's been on the market for HOW long?
