Looking for recomendation in the $2-400 range I found the
Yamaha YST-SW315 which looks nice.. any suggestions on brands or models
Also I have a bose am15 system now that utilizes the Receiver sub out plug... should i just leave it unplugged and plug in a the new sub  or use some sort of y adapter? TO keep them both plugged in  as the Bose sub sucks..
thanks in advance.

Bose sucks, period.  I'd seriously look at selling the speakers and starting over.

Harsh words, but I'd be happy to email you the Bose FAQ that explains why you can do so much better for less $$.   Bose has done a good job of marketing, so you can probably recoop a fair amount of what you paid.

Yamaha is known for sound chips, not so much for speakers.

Take a look at Polk, Definitive Technology, Mirage or a dozen other well known, well respected American manufacturers for your speaker needs.

Definitive Technology shakes the sheetrock in my house.

I would look at M&K subs, I have always heard very good stuff about them, I think they were one of the first powered subs out there.

I am not sure of their price range though.

+1

Except I have the KSW12  it is a 12" downfiring sub.... and it ROCKS!   It is pretty good for music, but a little on the muddy side....... but it ROCKS on Movies and about shakes my house to pieces!  It has that long "boom" too it.

If you want a more musical sub then I would go with Velodyne.  They have a much more crisp and clean sound.... but they are too "punchy" for movies.
