I spent last week in KA, and I saw more Bush and W'04 bumer stickers than JF'ing K'sucker stickers.

While I think that democrats are the most biased, I also think that republicans are quite biased.  I would like to see the source for that before I believe anything.  It could just be a feel-good poll.

The way I understand it, CA is pretty divided into conservative and liberal areas. You must have been in the former.

That would be great and all, but I can just never see Bush winning California. That would just seem impossible. Considering how many liberals are in that state, how he could be running closer to Kerry than he did Gore, after all the liberal bashing is just shocking. Still, if true, it's gotta be a positive I suppose. But I just never see it actually happening.

Of more concern to me are the recent polls in places like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida. According to CNN (yeah, I realize it's CNN), Bush trails by 10% in Ohio. He is also behind in Florida, but not by as much. They also claim Bush trails or is in a dead heat in basically all of the battleground states. I realize polls aren't everything, but I just wish Bush was doing a little better in some of those states. The way I see it, he can't afford to lose Florida or Ohio. I think if he does, he's beat. As of right now (if those polls are correct, and that is a big if), then it doesn't look good for him, especially in Ohio.

Granted, if he could pick up California and New Jersey, it would not matter what happens in Ohio or Florida if Bush holds in all the other states he won last time. But again, I find that puzzling. According to political pundits, the issue in Ohio is jobs, which for some reason or other has taken a harder hit there than in other areas. So maybe it's more of a local issue than anything national. Even more surprising is how well Bush is doing in two very tradiitionally liberal areas like CA and NJ.

I believe many think of this election as a repeat of 2000 with the winner being the one who takes just one or two states away from the other side. But if these polls are even close to being accurate, we may see some geography switching completely this time.

I honestly don't know what will happen. All I can say is that so far, some of what we are seeing is rather hard to explain and perplexing. Either way, I hope we get a boost with the convention and we can have some positive things take place that will carry us to another 4 year term. At this point, all I can do is go vote, encourage others to do the same, and hope for the best. And as tight as this race appears to be, I think I will avoid watching the coverage election night because it 2000 it nearly stressed me out completely. I'll likely wait until the following morning and see if we have a declared winner. And if I hear that it's Kerry, I'll likely spend most of the day in front of the toilet vomiting, knowing that this country will be fucked after 4 years of that communist son of bitch's policies.

For the Non-CA posters busy seeing CA through the usual 'filter' - CA voted 55% to fire our Dem Governor. And 65% of voters in that election voted for (R) candidates, over the (D) Lt Gov.

We are very much 'in play'. and for it to be so close after 8 solid months of Bush-bashing, AND the convention, and with the economy's steady improvement nationally and in CA particularly - it's going to be REAL close, and I optimistically think we just might do it/

It seems like I have seen more Kerry bumper stickers in Oklahoma than Bush stickers. Things like this worry me. It's never over till the fat lady sings.

Zogby - the islamist that does the Lib polling was saying (along with the L.A. Times that was trying to sink Schwarzeneggar right up until the minute the polls closed) 'no way in hell is the Recall passing, and even if it does, Lt Gov Bustamante will win - they weren't even close.

The 'accepted wisdom' - which you even see here in this thread, is that CA is way left. Yes, our most populous small counties are fucking nuts, so is our State Assembly and Senate, but taken as a whole, we are split right down the middle. That 'accepted wisdom' has had BOTH parties essentially ignore the state as a 'given'. I've live here for most of the last 2 decades, throughout SoCal, and I really think that if the President / RNC had spent anywhere as much time as he has in OH or FL, the state would be his. And at ~150 Electoral votes, it would be the same as winning 2/3 of the 'swing' states.


'They', the Big Media call the 'swing states' that because of the closeness of past elections. They don't even question the 'accepted wisdom', much less being the Liberal cesspool that Big Media is.

Maybe the fact that the Governer has an "R" next to his name could bend a few points here and there.  I know that Arnold is no conservative, but it's not like Pres. GWB is one either.   Compromise is the way things work anyways.

In the recent governor's election, over 60% of the votes went to Republican candidates because the Demo candidate was an obvious arogant shithead, and stupid to boot (they loved his ass in

I hope you guys are right and that California is beginning to see the light.

Maybe some of us are seeing California as a lost cause. But there is another way to look at this. The liberal democrat element has had control over California politics now for a number of years. I know the countryside isn't very liberal, but the large population of shitheads within the cities always seemed to put them over. Therefore, the liberals have had a firm grasp on California now for a long time. They've had the numbers and the control to do pretty much what they wanted.

But this, believe it or not, may be the best thing that could hapen for conservatives! Being the democrats have had such great control over California, it is only they who can be blamed for all of the problems that came about over the past few years. In other words, it was an experiment in politics that has completely and overwhelmingly failed! There has been tons of crime, economic problems too numerous to speak of, the energy crisis, the list goes on and on. And all of this is a result of failed liberal policies. So perhaps some of the people out there are beginning to put two and two together and starting to realize that perhaps the democrats are not the rose they once thought they were. In fact, maybe many are starting to see them for the pieces of lying socialist shit they really are. Maybe just maybe the brainwashing from the left is no longer working after it's become obvious the promises of the left are nothing but empty promises.

Call me crazy, but maybe this explains it. There's no better way to discover that the ideas of the left just don't work than to live through about 10-15 years of it. So it's a possibility some are wising up and don't won't the same type of sure to fail system running the nation. So hopefully these awakening folks will go to the election in force and cast their vote for ol' GWB.  At least those outside SF anyway. LOL.

If it wasn't for S.F. this state would go Republican almost everytime.  They got liberals stacked 10 high in that city.  The few times I've been to the Bay Area, I could always tell how close I was by the density of liberal bumper-stickers.  I saw a bay area car at a backpacking trailhead that had a United Nations bumper-sticker on it!  I shit you not, shiny and flashy, a UN sticker.

I think the more "polls" that come out saying Kerry will trounce Bush in California, the better.  Trust me, living in L.A. has taught me that most of the Democrats here are lazy and will not get out to vote.  The Repubs and many conservative independents are movtivated to prove the other "polls" wrong.

I think this poll reflects this.  Hell, my mom (100% Liberal, except she hates illegals) will be writing in Nader because she is so pissed at the Dems for blocking his chance to be on the ballot in so many states.

Way more Bush stickers down here.  When a Kerry one is spotted, it's usually one of a bunch of other lefty stickers, or on a car with a 'English teacher' looking driver.

from what freinds on the west coast have told me, it's only the ultra left that likes what california is becoming. everyone else is getting annoyed at the "big city values" becoming the standard for the state. the election is starting to polarize and motivate a lot of people to get inovolved. particulay those in the more conservative rural areas. it's quite possible california will experience one of the highest voter turnout rates in their histrory..and may well even swing republican.

Survey USA is a pretty well respected polling firm with an EXCELLENT track record in predicting the primaries this year. They also show their past track record as well so you can see where they have screwed up (not very often).

If they are saying that Bush and Kerry are neck and neck in California, then California is in play.

When the recall vote happened the polling booth was packed with people and a line wrapped around the building. Hell, a woman fainted in the middle of the booth and people just walked over to get the vote in.

Kali may surprise many bashers.

The great part of this is I'll be in the middle of my fall semester and I can't wait for the fights/shouting matches that are for sure gonna start in the classes; where TJ will be in the middle of them.

Look how fucking hysterical they've been since the 2000 elections.  Everytime they lose ground they shift farther to the left in order to "define themselves".

The fact that California is so close after this many months tells you that it's not working for them.

Are there ANY moderate Democrats in positions of leadership?  Are there any up and coming ones?  Is there ANYONE left in the Democratic party that can help move things back toward the center?  I don't know, but given the insanity that has come from them in the past decade or so, I doubt there is anyone left to steer it back to mainstream territory.

The polls mean NOTHING until after the debates.  The debates are going to be the key in this election.

As ETH posted earlier, not really.  If you look at the Presidental elections between Truman and Clinton the only Democrat that received a majority vote by Californians was LBJ who won almost all the other states that election year.  
It is interesting on what caused the political shift.  Increased immigration,  old hippies running for office, liberals like Gray Davis moving in from outside states,  the L.A./Bay area gaining too much power, etc.  Maybe it is a a little bit of all of them.  As stated though, hopefully the failed liberal expirements will finally be to much for people to stomach anymore and we will finally see another political swing.
