For those with the DSA STG-58 Kit rifles with the Tapco muzzle brake/flash suppressor good news. I sent mine in for the compliance check 10 days ago and got it back today. They changed the muzzle device that had the four sets of two tiny holes into one without any holes. Included with the rifle were four 20 round magazines in fair shape and two leather pouches in fair shape.

The muzzle work looks really nice. One bit of concern is that the rifle developed a very light bit of surface rust along the bolt handle rod (thingie) (I know AR's not FAL's!)

DSA turned this around in just 10 days which is really good service in my book.

The DSA STG-58A1/A2 "Kit" rifle is built with "excellent" quality Styer parts. Very excellent - like new! These are shooter's rifles not collectors rifles for goodness sake. I've done 100% more damage in the 800 rounds I've run though mine in the couple of months I've had it.

The upper receivers are marked DSA LK Barrington IL. The lower receivers are the used Styer parts in perfect condition.

These are not light rifles. The .308 isn't a .223 either. I bought with the full 21 inch barrel as the tiny extra few ounces of the extra 3 inches isn't enough to worry about and will give about 150 ft/sec more velocity to the bullet.

My feeling is that my .308 guns with their heavy cartridges and rifles are "defend the home front" (and good rock splitting) rifles. My light AR carbines are my "bug out, the water's rising too fast" carbines. I think my M-4 weighs about the same as four loaded FAL or M1A .308 magazines.

I've mounted a 5x AMT Professional scope on mine for its trip out to the rock quarry Friday or Saturday morning to see what she'll print. Definite minute-of-human to too many yards for me to worry about.

Moving to California in July on military orders. I talked with the military house hold goods councilors today about the weapons. I have to comply with Federal laws - they made no mention of state laws. It seems that the rifles will be safely stored on a federal base or sent home back east to stay with my folks. At least I can come and visit them when I miss them.

I'll be at Granite Falls Saturday about 9:00 to 10:00 for a couple hundred more rounds of .308 (weather depending). It looks like the wet weather is going to end later this afternoon.
