Chrysler Ups 300C to 425 hp

Chrysler's home-run hit, the 300C, will get a boost to 425 hp for the 2006
model year. With a boost in displacement for its Hemi engine, the newly
minted 300C SRT-8 will bump up to 6.1 liters of Hemi power and a full 425
hp, the same power that the best Hemis of the '60s produced. In addition to
the hot engine, SRT-8s also receive a chin spoiler, a small rear spoiler,
a new rear fascia and larger exhaust tips; four-piston caliper Brembo
brakes; a race-tuned suspension with 20-inch wheels and tires; and sport
bucket seats with suede inserts, as well as a 60-mph acceleration time of about
5.0 seconds.

I passed on the 300C, I ran a thread here about a 2 months ago.   The wise suggestions and thoughts of my ARFCOMmers steered me clear of this.   Thanks Hielo for your input.


SO I bought a Rodeo LS instead.  Used, with  low mileage.   Runs great.
Practical for me.

The new 300's are pretty much the last generation Mercedes E-class under the sheetmetal.   The tranny, suspension, steering column, switch gear, other electronic bits, etc. all came out of the Merc parts bin.

I can't wait to see the 300C's on the road as cop cars.

Seriously, when will car companies get over the 'Everything is a sedan or SUV' thing???

We have 'Sport Compacts' (small sedans)

We have 'Performance sedans' (4 door with a big motor, possibly modified to 2-door config...

And so on...

IMHO, fast cars should look FAST standing still (that means no chrome, no grille, etc... Examples include the Corvette, Viper, and late-model Firebird from US companies, and the 3000GT & S2000 from Japan)....

For one, ugly is in the eye of the beer-holder.

For two, this isn't a sports/muscle car like the others you mentioned.  It's a large near-luxury sedan that happens to pack some serious ass.  For the upcoming SRT-8, think cheap E55 AMG.

I dig the new 300 a lot.  This just sweetens it.

One car I always thought was moving when it was standing still and just looked fast was the 1965 GTO. I've alway had a soft spot for the underdog of the GM family, namely Pontiac motor division. They've alway been overshadowed by Cheverolet. But somehow they have produced landmark hi-po vehicles. My last true Pontoon hi-performance car was a 1974 SD 455 TA with a 4-speed, one of 212 built. Dave, you and I seem to be on the same page when it comes to our likes of performance cars.

Their mclas plant is 30 miles from here. You used to see the damn things everywhere. Now locals won't buy them. Too many hard failures that dealers would not back. mike

Don't confuse the "Bubba Benz" with the real ones made in Germany.

When I bought my last Mercedes at the Automall in Fremont California, I looked at an ML. I was shocked when the sales dude straight out told me they were junk and not to buy one. But he did sell me an S500

My mechanic works on all MB cars. Except the ML. He hates them.  "Absolute junk" I think he said.
