With the AWB coming to an end soon, I was thinking of what I should buy after 9/14. So I am thinking about buying a silencer, what do I have to do to own one and what companies should I look into. The only one I know anything about is Gemtech, this would be for my M4 project.

If you don't own a .50 do that first.  A silencer is a "fluff" item.  All it does is cost money, foul your weapon and create a ton of paperwork for you.  You can exude the same, or well maybe close "Cool Guy" factor" with your .50.

A Can is on my list for next years "things to buy". I'm building a "no ban" AR in .300 Fireball/Whisper and I think it'd be a natural for a nice seperssor. That way I could shoot and not bother the neighbors so much.

I never think of any of that what I shoot suppressed firearms. They make me happy.

If it makes you happy, by all means fill out the form, pay the tax stamp and do it!
Just clean yo gun when your done.  They just don't do it for me.  I am on the other side.  The bigger the boom, the bigger the grin.
Cans do look cool, but man they get HOT HOT HOT!

The CLEO's round Houston are tough to get a signature from.  Your best, fastest way is to go LLC (incorporate) Maybe in a smaller town you can get a CLEO sig, but in Houston, it's rare.

Well I did say getting a CLEO to sign off in a big city is tough.  I did say cans get hot.
That was informative, yes?
BTW The cool thing was a joke.  If your going to and capable of getting the sig and stamp, you better not be a wannabe.
About my bat.  Don't know what in the hell was going on that day.  In heat or something.  One hell of a Kodak moment.

Look to GEMTECH for a supressor. They are the standard.

The guys over at uzitalk.net speak very highly of them Gemtechs and one or two others.. In addition, they say there very effective (On the 9mm) and I very much want one. Unfortunately, in order for me to have one I need to also buy another house. How ridiculous. Oh well, I've got one in mind so.....

Brad, I sure wish I could get mine out of your safe and play with it. As mentioned by Beer Slayer, buying a supressor and doing the paperwork is easy. Its the waiting that's the hard part.

I feel just the opposite. A can would allow me to use a rifle in a home defense situation without damaging the hearing of myself and loved ones.

A .50, on the other hand, is a cool toy, but I have no real purpose for having one.
