What do you consider "alot of money"?

I still think of anything over $100 as alot of money, even though I make enough now to spend more than that without worrying. I also still gag a bit when I get a bill for dinner for two that's over $50, even though I know it's not going to break me.

But then I hear other people talk about something being "not alot of money" and come to find out they're talking a couple of hundred.

I don't know if it's my simple upbringing vs. the fact that I make more than either of my parents now, or if the people 'round here just really are that rich.

For me, it's anything over $200. I consider anything less to be 'incidental'...although you'll still hear me occasionally whine over filling my 25-gallon gas tank.

for me it depends on what it is I'm buying
I'd consider $500 a lot for a bicycle, but not for many guns
$60,000 would be a lot for a car, but not for a house
etc

I'll let you know how much "a lot of money" is after I get an estimate for the body work on my mustang

... Seriously, to me, I've almost always though of anything over $20 as a LOT of money. I don't like spending money on myself. However, as I have started to make more money, I've started to be able to spend more without freaking out.

Still - I was just at a conference, and went out to dinner with some collegaues from other universities (including my fiancee). When we split the bill it was $75 per person. I KNOW that lots of people probably have much more expensive meals than that regularly, but that seemed like an ENORMOUS amount of money to me. $75 american dollars for one person to have a good meal??? It was a good meal, in a fancy restaurant in New Orleans, but still - I thought it was way too much. (and this wasn't even my own money, since the university reimburses me for meals - but it still bothered me).

Alot of money is any amount that wpould significantly change my way of life.

$10,000.00 is not Alot of money. It would not allow me to pay off my house or buy a new car, or even send my kids to college. $10,000,000.00 is alot of money.

My dad is also not rich, by some standards, but he treats $100 as a lot of money.

Though he pays cash for $300,000 houses........

It depends on which side of the money you're on. If you have $10,000 in the bank, it's not really a lot of money. If you owe $10,000, it's a lot of money.

To me its anything that you have to think about before putting down hard earned cash. I have rules for spending money,some or all apply depending on circumstance.

1. It has to be something that is used often to merit the expense.

2. It has to go up in value or have collector appeal.

3. It helps other people who need it .

4. The wife wants it bad enough that I don't want to have to jack off instead of getting the good stuff.

Thats about it.

It depends on this situation.

Back in February I had to get the brakes on my car fixed, and new tires. The total was about $850. I considered that to be alot of money.

This past weekend, I spent about $850 on a gun, weapons light, some ammo and picitanny rails. I thought that I made out like a bandidt.

I still roll coins.
I'd look for a lost $20 but not as long as I used to.
It's easier to spend $50-$100 on dinner
$10,000 is a lot o' money but it would take more to cause me to lose sleep, maybe $100,000 in a real loss situation.
Since we live well within our means I don't think even a high six figure loss would change our lifestyle.

Depends on what it is you are looking to do with the money.

$1,000 won't buy a quality rifle. $10,000 won't buy a quality car. $100,000 won't buy a quality house.

Nope, I know many people who work 100 hrs a week and piss it away as fast as they earn it.

Suffice to say work ethic and personal behavior work together to make you rich.

Thats about it.

Secret to a well lived life. Money on hand or readily available makes life so much easier. I live well below my means, have an old truck and a decent car, small house payment on a nice house, NO credit card debt, and cash in the bank. When I was laid off for 5 months, I barely even had to touch my savings.
Oh and 10G's is a lot of money to me

A lot of money to me is when I'm able to buy every gun, car, boat, fishing equipment, house, computer, big screen TV that I want and still be able to see a positive bank account balance. Any amount less is chump change

Edited to say: and every accessory for every gun I get as well as 2 dozen mags and 10K rounds of ammo for each, fuel for the cars and boats, and fine fine wimmenz for me houses...

If I lived in Nevada or Az, buying 20g worth of guns off the bat wouldn't be a lot of money.

Now, my wife and I went to lunch the other day to a sandwich shop. I told her we could go to the supermarket on the way home and buy a 2-liter of soda for .89(it was on sale) instead of paying 5 bucks for drinks there. Those 5 bucks is a lot of money.

She was pissed and she got her damn drink.

Casual purchases: a couple hundred bucks. Less than that is down in the more or less impulse purchase range.

In the global scheme of things, enough money to change my life in a significant way. More than a car, maybe a downpayment on or big chunk of a house. Something like $100K around here.

Any amount over $100, it takes me several months to save up $100. I work full time and my wife works part time so we do not have to pay for childcare. We live paycheck to paycheck, and have little debt other than our house and utilities.

Dont feel bad. If I have any clue what kind of man you are, you probably have a good amount of money saved in the bank and own your car and house and every other belonging.

Most other people who toss cash around are always in DEBT! They work and live to pay off their credit cards. I believe this to be true of at least 70% of the pop.
