Ok, now admittedly I have a really nice job, sometimes... but today it was really crappy.

long story short, I work with computers for a local college, and I recently  had my hours cut when a new worker was hired on, and now I am the low man on the totum pole occationally...

so yesterday, like any other day, I was placed in charge of a group of workers to accompish a task that needed to be done at the end of this week. ( a fairly complex task, mostly hard work involving moving computers around, but the occational easy time of software work) So I decide that I will probably be a nice "boss" and help the other workers do some heavy lifting and moving of computers across campus, but I chose to drive a golf cart instead... I know.. lazy.. but I was in charge for the time being...

So I load up the golf cart numerous times and transport the computers across the campus... saving tons of time and making the lower workers abit happier in their tasks...

no problems...

BUT today.. woa.. here comes the crap.

So I start work early... grab the golf cart, and head across campus to finish up the job.

as soon as I get to were I am needed, I am called directly back by my superior.

DAMN, I know something is wrong...

yup.

I'm told that they are cutting my hours again... and I'm not working again untill Sept 20th.

WHAT THE???

that sucks ass... but I let them know, that its fine wtih me... and I'll finish up my work this week.

so I grab the golf cart... head back to work.

after a full day of Crappy hard labor.. and tedious plugging and unplugging of wires...

I drive back down and drop the cart off...

what would ya know...

Apparently, I drove too fast, (5mph limit) (I was probably doing 9-10mph)

I get reprimanded, called into the head of the departments office, and told that I will have my driving privlages suspended. (how long... damn I dont know..)

-----------------------------------------------------------

I'm getting sick of this crap.

They cut my hours, and then took away the best part of my job (driving the golf carts)

what would you all do?

should I quit?

should I puss out and go back to work on Sept 20th like nothing happened?

I'd start looking.

You seem to be working hard but they are hiring others and cutting your hours.  To quote Admiral Akbar "It's a trap".

Getting called in on the carpet for "speeding" in a golf cart just seems over the top for me.  Seek emploment elsewhere, my young Padawan

College campus?

Pulled over for DRIVING TOO FAST IN A GOLF CART?

Did you invite your security nazi to feel what it's like to have your foot surgically removed from his non-law-enforcement, very-stupid ass? Maybe offer him some doughnuts and a female with a bag of dope to occupy him for the evening? Most of the slack-ass college rent-a-cops I ran into would kill for that Saturday night dream-date.

That's one of the reasons I quit my job when I worked at a college...FUCK THAT. You deal with weekend commando "Security" types, not to mention self-important fucksticks that can't hold a job in real life and are forced to stay at a school, either as a student or an employee. Don't even get me started on administration or admissions assholes.

A case in point: My boss, when I worked at my college, had a Masters in CompSci. MASTERS. He taught there. The man, according to paper and his peers (hah!), was not an unclued or stupid man.

He completly freaked out when I disconnected a 10base2 t-piece. Not the 10base2 itself, but the t-piece the cables were connected to. As in, removed the whole assembly, still intact, from a pc. He thought I bought down the whole network. HE HAD A MASTERS DEGREE. Hello? I had gotten my CNE just before I got hired (I was 18? 19? something like that)...and was totally flabbergasted at the total lack of clue. I discovered that I had only discovered the tip of the iceberg in that regard in this profession. I saw some amazing clue working there...and even more amazing cluelessness, much of which I have not seen in the real world. Only saw it there.

Bail while you can. Working in a school is NOT where you want to be.

I'm in a job that doesn't pay too well, it does pay better than unemployment.

first decent job I can find that nets me 20+/hr and I'm outta here!

I was layed off of my previous job of almost 14 years.
never again will I be a slave to a company.

Start looking, don't quit till you find another job and even then give proper notice.

Don't burn any bridge.

I look at it, this way. If a employeer can and will fire you without notice, on the spot.  Then I say to hell with giving notice to quit a job. I would never go back to a job, I had in the past. I look at that as going backwards in life.

My last employeer cut my pay, salary to hourly. Due to business being slow. Then told me not to work any overtime.  What the hell this is, I'm in Phoenix Arizona and I'm an A/C Tech. My last week employeed by that company I worked 24 hours. Can't live on that.

Lucky me I went out and found a new job. So my last day of work 7-31-04 I went in and quit at 7:30am. I then started my new job at 9:00am same day.

At my new job I'm working 12 hour days, everyday. This is how it's to be in the A/C business.

My advice is to find a new job and start it ASAP.

If you make good money stick it out.

Someday you'll have enough seniority to bid on a different job

Whatever you do, have another job lined up before you give your two weeks notice.

Damn dude when I was in highschool I drove my Firebird through the hallways and did a brakestand infront of all the muck mucks and only got yelled at. They're just tryin to fuck with you enough so you quit. Start looking and when you find a suitable replacement put in your two weeks.

I've been kissing ass at this job for well over a year and a half... the've looked me over for promotion a few times, and never given me any oportunity to advance..

the only crappy thing... is that I am the only person who they count on never to miss a day, never to complain, and I'm always the person who gets the hard jobs..

I've lived with it for awhile... but one of the last straws (besides the damn golf cart incident) was when me and another person came up for review (for a better position) and the other guy got the job, even after he stated (to the boss infront of me) "well, I was going to quit in a few months anyway... so I dont really need this promotion" DAMN HIM. he got the damn promotion...

I think I'm going to be very polite tomorrow, and just let them know that, "due to high stress situations, I will regrefully have to step down from my position." and just go get another job.

I used to work as a temp worker, so I've been in well over 20 or so different feilds and jobs, so finding another job shouldnt be bad at all...

I'll post an update after tomorrow.... with either the results of my story... or .... a promotion and my golf cart privlages back??? (HAHA!! ya right!)

BINGO!

When I was considering leaving a company that I had been with for 9 years (longest job I'd had by far) I was discussing the idea of how much notice to give with the VP of IT of our parent company (who came from Wall Street and who was a good friend and drinking buddy ).  Since I was so involved and critical to so many things going on I was thinking about MONTHS of notice.

He looked at me like I had 2 heads, and his best Irish brogue said "What are you, fucking crazy?  Look, these people if they wanted you gone would show up with a paycheck and escort you out the door in a heartbeat.  Why the hell would you bend over so far for them?"

After having been involved with several companies before and after that who had the morals of starving rats on a plank at sea, I've come to see the wisdom of his statement.

I agree, I've seen them fire people... its always sad...  but damn them for keeping me on, yet trying to get me to quit... (I've been told by other poeple from other departments, that I must either be really crazy or just ignorant about the way they are treating me... ) I guess I was just avoiding the facts till now.

------------>UPDATE<--------------
                    ^^^^^^^

Well.... I walked into work this morning at 7:30, and told my boss that I would like to step down from my position, and he didnt even blink an eye before letting me know that he would like me start a new project today..

I was thinking that maybe he didnt hear what I said... so I breifly brought up it up again, and he said that it would be no problem if I wanted to leave..

WHA?

ok ok.. fine.. I tell the guy I'm quitting, and he assigns a hard task for me on the last day... what a putts..

to make things even worste... he has a co-worker tell me that I am being considered for a new position on campus that pays well, and has more hours...

WHA??

why let me quit before hinting about a new position???

I'm lost...

Next time they put you in charge of a crew fire them.

They are screwing you around. I got the same deal as you. I started hearing all this wonderful BS about me getting a promotion when they heard I wanted to quit. Then they asked me if I wanted to be promoted to assistant manager. I said no thanks. And quit the next day. No notice, just handed my keys and uniform, picked up my check and left. Hated that job and I've never felt better than to shaft the fucktards before they shafted me.

I've had a few jobs that I got so pissed I "tried" to quit.  Before I could leave the bosses office he would be on the phone with the bookkeeper getting my raise.  The job I have now I walked out of the office with a company van and gas card. Not paying for gas alone is like a $30 to $60 a week raise.
If they want you they will do what it takes to keep you.
If they don't.......bye bye.

Of course there have been jobs that I just walked in and said "This( place/people/BS) sucks. I'm outta here."

Ok, so here's the update....

so they kiss my ass... tell me to stop worrying about things... and work me HARD for about a month....

I get really stressed.... and they know it, so they call me into the Big Boss's office.

I sit down, and big boss man tells me all about this great new opening that is coming up, and would basically be a promotion for me.

I'm all excited... so about 30 mins later (after more ass kissing...)

.
.
.
...
...

......

.......

He's giving the job to someone under me.... a lesser worker... who doesnt know SHIT about the job.

I dont get mad... but I do take all the master keys out of my pocket, and set them on the desk, and resign from that position... (down to a less stress area of the workplace)

they say "no problem"..... . . .. . .. ... .. its then that I notice that they wanted me to quit.

oh shit.

so I go home for the day... and come back the next to drop off my last time card.

I get called into the big boss's office again...

and he sits me down and calls in anyone else above me (2 people)

I get this speach.. .that had obviously been prepared, that was a load of crap that basically said that I would be A Liability to the Company because I knew TOO MUCH. so they told me that I should Move On.

Ok... but why?

so I procede to ask a few questions...

about an hour later... I'm yelling.

They didnt have a reason to fire me...

FUCK THAT.

So I Gave them one.

ok, time to move on.

oh, the drama.
