GOatboy owns the site, we are guests in Goatboys 'house', if you have questions about Goatboys veracity, a mannerly person will quietly leave and not make a scene. I for one will back up Goatboy on anything he says, at any time.

i may be mistaken but when the ad first hit their server was overloaded. THEY announced it was a DOS attack. I guess BUSH supporters were doing it.

That is what I thought too. I'm just wondering why the comment was made on the main page of this site that "Kerry supporters" were carrying out a DOS attack, and if they were... then where is the evidence for the statement. I think it's a very simple question and I'd like an answer. I'm not questioning, nor would I dare to question, the veracity of the statement by GoatBoy. I am just looking for the evidence which backs up the statement. I do not like the idea of "Kerry supporters" attempting to block any information which we can gather on Senator John Kerry. Who exactly was carrying out the DOS attack? That is all I'm asking. Where is the evidence? cheers front |

The evidence to back up Goatboy from RELIABLE sources is simply overwhelming.
PROOF? The proof must be in the eye of the analyst. YOU are the only one who can decide. The accuracy of your analysis is directly dependent on your sources. Most of us here are news junkies. Most of us use multiple sources, both Right AND Left. Some of us are actually Inside-The-Beltway denizons. A BLIND person with at least two active synapses firing realizes that the case against Kerry is iron clad. He is an opportunistic, cowardly, reckless, lying pice of shit who will do absolutely ANYTHING to gain the presidency. In spite of the crystal clarity of the case against candidate Kerry, Liberal, "Anybody But Bush" Democrats trolling for potential suckers to vote for Kerry, will do ANYTHING in weak attempts to encourage the "uncommitted" to vote for a man and a party that poses a clear and present danger to the Constitution of the United States. Oh...and welcome aboard. Alternative realities and points of view are ALWAYS welcome at ARFCOM, unlike our Socialist counterparts over at the DU, where a false word gets you banned for DISRUPTING in about 3 nanoseconds. But then since they are based on the Soviet model, counter-revolutionary thought and speech must be banned! Why don't you give us YOUR opinion of this issue? |

A little googling will show you a good amount of info. FoxNews and the Washington Times both covered the issue. Proving it was an organized DOS attack perpetuated by a known source may be difficult, making the argument an attack occurred is not. When the Kerry allegations were initially made the site was offline and or very slow for several days.

Like Daggar has addressed, his question was not about the SwiftVets tehmselves but the DOS attack against their site. Personally I don't have a clue but knowing that GoatBoy has more knowledge of the cyber world (he dremas in code from what I'm told  ) and the news reports about it, I tend to believe it.

A DOS would be indicated by multiple requests from the SAME IP address. In most DOS attacks, the each IP address will make hundreds if not thousands of requests for the same info in a matter of a few minutes or a couple of hours. On a normal day a news site may get 5 to 10 hits from a single IP spaced out during the day. On an exceptional day, like when Hurricane Charley went across Florida, NOAA and other weather sites may get a hundred or so hits from concerned people spaced over the whole event. I hope this shows the differences.

Uh, guys, I don't think Front is questioning GB's honesty in posting that information on his website. I'm giving Front the benefit of of doubt and figure his question is asking if GB or anyone else has some means of verifying the identity of whoever was responsible for the DOS attack. Hence his question asking for evidence. Maybe Front is someone in the RNC inner circle looking for information to use AGAINST the Dems if they had a hand in the DOS attacks.
I sure don't get from his post that he was questioning GB's right or decision to post that information. |

The info on the supposed DoS attacks came from a third party who apparently was contacting them regarding mirroring of the ad to increase it's visibility. The contact he spoke with said they were running full tilt and also being spammed by a few different IPs who were simply hammering the site and flooding their network. (We see a lot of this here actually, usually 1-2 attacks a week. Our router has a very nice collection of blocked IPs!) I did not take the time to verify the DoS attack and obviously made the assumption that it was from people who did not want the ad to be seen. Nobody was mentioned by name, no IPs were posted, and if Michael Moore can slant his movies to get his opinions out there, then I sure as hell can put 2 and 2 together and call the attack as I see it.  BTW, this person did contact me later and said that the DoS attack was not as bad as originally thought, but that they freaked expecting it to get much worse. As for the legal implications of DoS attacks, unless you can prove monitary loss exceeding, I believe $10k or $100k, then nobody will really do anything for you. Is it illegal? Yup, sure is. Do they care? Not really. There's enough going on with real attacks and life to keep these guys laughing about geeks attacking other geeks. We deal with our own attacks as do the majority of sites. Hope this clears up a few things on where the info came from and why it was written the way it was. Edited to add - I offered to mirror it as well, but never got an email response back, so in the best interests of the site, I didn't just put it up and ignore their ownership of said ad. I still have a copy of it on the servers as well as a ton of related material just in case!!!

Thank you for posting GoatBoy. It does clear up where the info came from. I'd just like to state that I was just looking for the evidence. I did not, nor would I, attempt to impugn the veracity of the statements you make on this site... for any reason. I'd also like to thank the individuals who attempted to bring some sort of calm to the thread. As to those "cheerleaders" who are on a hair-trigger on their keyboards? Some of us have joined this board in the past... and we just read the boards. Occasionally we might make a post... and when we do, we do NOT expect to have to constantly post to justify our presence.
