I agree but double the spinning and steering parts seems scary.

?? Ukrainie War - Russian KA-52 Emergency Landing During Combat Sortie At Hostomel Airport • POV |

No idea how good it actually is but both it and the Hind have that "don't fuck with me" look to them.
Neat to have in a war machine. |
|
I agree it looks cool. They haven’t done terribly well, but I don’t know if that’s a function of the helicopter or how horrible the Russians are at combined arms.

As of a couple months ago they had already lost a third of their fleet of them and seemed to be using them more and more for indirect rocket barrages to stay out of range of any sort of air defense. |

Bit of an oxymoron, they look much cooler when they’re on fire.

I like the KA-26 better because it will cause greenie weenies to have a stroke.
Kamov-26 helicopter - smoky and flamy cold start. |
|
|
Beautiful bird no doubt. Third pic is single seater KA50 though.

View Quote But they don't need a tail rotor, which saves a lot on the parts count and complexity in the transmission, tailshaft etc. There is a problem with the rotor blades in the two levels coming into contact during stressful maneuvers that cause the main rotor blades to bend, that's why the two sets of main rotors are so far apart. |

Helicopter into days combat environment….no THX. But does have some charm.

If you want to know what our attack aviation stuff looked like pre GWOT look inside the cockpit. Steam gauges, shitty mpd's, and targeting systems circa 1991.

Agreed. I think many of the Russkie birds are pretty sexy in design as well as camo. I like that shade of blue they use on all the interiors too.

Two-is-one in action.
Two rotors. Two motors. Two vertical stabilizers. |

I don’t doubt that the Apache and possibly the Tiger are better aircraft. But I can’t help but like the KA-52. I have a soft spot for any helicopter that doesn’t use a standard tail rotor.

Also Russian. There is a re-power campaign to make them more fuel efficient but the original plant exhaust would put a steam locomotive to shame. |
|

That was likely a Mi28 or maybe a Mi24. It definitely wasn't a KA50 or 52, there is only one main rotor. |

Quoted: Some of the early footage from Ukraine was crazy. Lots of extremely low maneuvering, tons of FPV from the pilot/gunner, guys were recording their shootdown and evasion. Or their shootdown and death. Something like 30% of the production run has been lost in combat https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FwvM1zfXwAYj_Xy?format=jpg&name=medium View Quote This stuck with me. ????????????????? ?? ??-25 ??????? ???????. |

Quoted: No doubt about that. Say what you will will, flying a helicopter with no tail rotor, yeah I’d be all over that. In the same hanger as the old R22 I used to fly. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/229871/881D80B7-6D24-4B95-B828-6E5A648FE3D9-2828955.jpg View Quote The KA50/52 is far prettier. |
