I ran a quick errand to the store to return a few videos, & get a couple more. I picked out some & this lady with two kids walked up to the counter maybe 10 seconds ahead of me & started checking out. No big deal. I was in a hurry, because my wife was angry that I took the only vehicle to do the errand, as day care was just getting over, & she wanted to go to the gym to exersize, so I was told to be quick. So anyways, this female, who's checking out ahead of me walks off into the video store to shop some more. I saw what she was doing, & said in a mild voice,..." Come on lady, your holding everyone else up."
 That's when the checkout girl, voided her checkout, & started mine. The womans teenage duaghters face showed a slight feeling of shock, & the 8 to 10 year old had a strange look as well.So was I rude, or was she the rude one? |

She was rude. You may have considered asking the clerk to check you out while the woman shopped rather than address her directly. Rude or not, she is presumed to be a lady. You are presumed to be a gentleman and should not be curt with a woman you are unfamiliar with.

Checkout means checkout to me. You have got your booty and are ready to exit premises.
Folks around here get to the checkout and hold up the line while their offspring filter in with more goods, saying "hold on a minute" and then arguing with offspring about how they can't have it... I deal with it well now, amazing how age mellowed me out, somewhat. Searcher, I say you did well. Danny |

I know this, if my wife want's to run & get something while were checking out, if she not back by the time the checkout is done, if anyone is waiting behind me she knows to get in line behind them.
 If I haven't started to unload, I will let others go ahead of me, till she gets back. I also write my check out as far as I can ahead of time, so as to make it a speedy process, or I have my cash in my hand when the total is reached. I do my best to always make it quick & easy, for others as well as myself. |

A LADY would have asked the people behind her if it was okay, or, she would have offered for the next person to go ahead hoping the the person behind him was a LADY or GENTLEMAN and would let her cut back in line. It was very arrogant of her to assume that noone would mind waiting for her to shop more. If you're not through pay for they stuff at the counter and let the people behind you be checked out. You can always go back to get more after that. I think we need to band together to teach basic manor's to the people of the world. This will be lesson two. Lesson one;Always say please.

I'm glad to see that for the most part ya'll agree with me, in that I didn't believe I was rude. I could have stated it different, or talked with the checker instead, but acording to my peers on this site I did pretty good.
