Went to Country Mart to see if there were any deals. Wife got some steaks for dinner before the kids headed off to a Scout meeting.
Was heating up the grill when the wife noticed something about the steaks. She's not sure, but thinks they were mislabeled(and therefore mispriced). Bought about $150 in beef and pork(mostly beef) tonight. Got some roasts for $2.99/lb and some Charcoal steaks for $3.89/lb. Rump roast is $5.49/lb we got for my youngest son to make some jerky. What kind of steak do you think is in the picture? Attached File |

I usually rely on the label because I’m steak dumb, but they look like NY strips to me.

ribeyes you can tell by the ends
but not a lot of marbleization, which makes it look like a Strip |

They're strips. Assign whatever geographic reference you wish in the name.

Quoted: Quoted: ribeyes you can tell by the ends but not a lot of marbleization, which makes it look like a Strip That'd be my guess as well. Yeah a strip will have a really pronounced fat cap on the edge |

top sirloin without the bottom round
the fat on one side = strips |

The second pack had pronounced fat cap along the edge. We weren't too doubtful about those.
The ones in the picture struck us as a little odd, and we aren't meatcutters so I brought the issue to the hive. Store said they were strips. |

Even at $5.99/lb for strip I'm not complaining.
Boys were happy to have steak and not Taco Bell for a change. Green peppercorn/Cabernet pan sauce and baked potato, along with some Thanksgiving leftovers. Made for a nice dinner. |

That's actually tough for me to guess.
Large NYs or Ribeyes with not much fat. |

On the other hand, now that GD has taught us that buffalo is a lot better, it sucks to be you. |

The cut looks like Ribeye, however, it was a grass fed animal and should have been grain finished. Not enough marbling in that meat..... I would give that meat a light coat of your favorite infused olive oil, the use a general coating of pink salt and fresh ground pepper on both sides. Let sit uncovered in the fridge for 24 hours before cooking. One minute sear on each side, toss on the grill with indirect heat until 115 degrees. Remove, cover with foil for 10 minutes..... then enjoy.

I'm saying strip, only way that's ribeye is if they cut the entire spinalis off which is the best part and would be shameful.

Fred Flintstone says he wants his brontosaurus steaks back....

It's probably a 1x1 strip loin. I've seen better and have seen worse.
