Gee, these asshats seem to have just so much time on their hands now that they solved all of L.A.'s IMPORTANT problems, that they decide to tackle this pressing, earth shattering nightmare.

Asshat.  A word that perfectly describes ANYONE that would waste the taxpayers time on shit like this.

City Council Ponders Silly String Ban

Councilman Wants To Clean Up Streets

Jul 23, 2004 2:41 pm US/Central

LOS ANGELES (AP) Silly string's days may be numbered.

The Los Angeles City Council is set to consider an ordinance today that would ban the substance from use in public places.

Councilman Tom LaBonge says banning silly string is needed to clean up the streets of Hollywood and other areas where it is often used during Halloween and New Year's parties.

Many others say the council is wasting time by discussing such a seemingly trivial issue.

The ingredients of silly string are kept secret by manufacturers, but some kinds contain a small amount of alcohol and plasticizers.

LaBonge says the aerosol-powered spray string can clog sewers and runoff into the ocean.

Some of that stuff is also HIGHLY flammable.  No it doesn't need to be regulated but I sure would like to see it offf the market.

Hate that crap in my house.

Keep talking about silly string. After that, start talking about silly putty. Just don't talk about firearms and I'll be happy.

As stupid as it sounds they already tried to ban Silly Putty because it can pick up the ink off of a newspaper. Kids were eating the silly putty after doing the newspaper trick.

Go figure.

So now LA has a serious Silly String problem?

And here I was thinking more along the lines of gangs and drugs.

Lets just ban LA

Can we just ban L.A. and be done with them!

Silly string?

I guess my initial assumption that this thread was about some new version of G-strings is incorrect!!

Since they reformulated, it hasn't been as good as it was.

To clean up, a broom breaks it up into little balls that blend in with the street.

To clean up areas of L.A, and Hollywood, it will take a LOT more than banning silly string.

It seems that it's no longer being "considered" as it was voted 10-0 in favor of the ban.

Absolutely ridiculous.  Whose fault will it be when someone moves to L.A. from somewhere else and uses "Silly String" innocently?  WTF?!

Unfuckingbelievable!

One more step in the process of going directly from the womb to the energy pod.  Hey, can't subject out citizens to ANYTHING that might cause ANY problems for ANYTHING or ANYONE, that would be BAD.

Ummmm, forgive me for noticing the obvious here but, uhhh, why does a "grumpy old bastard" like YOU have silly string in his house in the first place, hmmmm?????  That's not very bastardlike....I'm a bastard, albeit a bit younger in years, and I sure as hell don't have any silly string in my house!

In the name of the "Grumpy Old Bastard's Club",  start sqeakin'!!!!!!

Laugh if you must, but silly string or something is similar in nature is really effective in finding trip wires. Spray it accross where you suspect a wire is placed and it will stick to the wire, showing where the wire is so that it can be avoided. I carry a can in my tac vest for that very purpose after being shown how useful it is during a booby trap detection class.

I think, that what it comes down to is that lawmakers (the legislative branch) are running out of GOOD laws to make/change (in their eyes), and they can't just do *nothing* all day, so they do inane laws like this crap...  it's like those old laws we read about a laugh - like in Ohio, it's illegal to wear red and ride your horse on Wednesday...

5 bucks?

Do you know how much this experiment is going to cost?

Although maybe if I use 1/4 charge and one can we can see the same effect just on a reduced scale.

Tomorrow, I will buy as much silly string as I can afford while I still can before they ban it here!

If they try to ban it I'll spray it in the river!!!

Actually the next big problem  after clean-up is that the grumpy old and young farts that punch out the yahoos that spray them in the face.  It probably causes more fights than anything else does.

Buy all you want, I'll give you a hint, the LA City Council doesn't give a shit about what the folks in Florida think.
