The anniversary of my dad's death is coming up next month and I was feeling very reflective so I'm posting this .

This rifle started out as an idea. I found the front stub at a machine gun shoot and it was obliterated.  Everyone told me it was a paperweight but call me stubborn but I didn't believe them. I contacted John Brace who helped me do the reconstruction.  The factory demil stub was mated to an 80% rear.

I tried to make it reflective of when my dad was in Vietnam (late 1967 through early 1968) everything except the fcg and the lower are 100% Colt.

Oh it was a mess. The mag well was cracked from being crushed. The gunsmith I took it to for refinishing used a high temp aircraft epoxy to help fill in the holes before it was painted.

It functioned fine it was just ugly.

That’s amazing!

Years ago I bought a couple crushed receivers with the idea of doing this. Made them into keychains instead.

Thanks for responding. My dad was in Vietnam in '66-'67. He's 76 now. Sorry that your dad isn't here anymore.
