I was just watching Good Morning America and saw that Bush's tax cut was approved!

Supposedly, if you filed for last year's taxes... single people should expect a $300 check, Married (marriage penalty now removed) people will get about $600, and if you have kids you could get as much as an additional $1000 bucks back as a supplemental tax refund.

Checks are supposed to be mailed in about 2-3 weeks.

I'm not holding my breath, I'll bet congress can stop/delay it somehow...  Anyway, if this goes through and I get my check... what's next?  Perhaps he'll let the AW ban sunset in 2004?

So whatcha gonna buy with your $$$?  My only problem is that my wife was watching TV with me this morning and saw the news too!  Doh!  If only she hadn't, I get home before her and stood a good chance of getting my hands on that check first!  Now she knows the money is coming!

"Gee Honey, we only got $100 bucks back... that Damn Liar Bush!  He said it was $600!"  :)

Don't tell me George W. ain't THE MAN. He says there will be a tax cut, he campaigns for a tax cut, he pushes the tax cut with appearances all over the country, he probably 'loses' JEFFORDS
over the tax cut, and finally prevails!

That's why we voted Republican!

I hate to tell you guys, but that tax cut check is considered income. Even though it's your own money coming back to you, you may still have to pay taxes on it. If this is true, does that mean that a tax is taxed?

How stupid are the American people? The government is calling this a "rebate" and the public is sucking it up. The government and all the other parasites are sucking us all dry. We are being overtaxed as it is, only to have the agencies blow the money on bullshit programs and handouts to third world governments. Every time you register a car, get a building permit, renew a drivers license, etc. you are really paying a "tax", but they call it a "fee". Every time you buy something at the store or buy gas, you are being taxed on the purchase. Then at the end of the year you are taxed again, even on the taxes paid for all the purchases made during the year. They have made it where we have to work from January 1st to the end of May to pay our "Tax". They are bleeding every one of us, and most do not even realize this. They are not "giving" anything to us, it was ours already! We don't need all the stupid pork barrel projects and studies the government wastes our money on. We need less government involvement and interference with our lives. We need fewer parasites feeding off the backs of the taxpayers. We need a smaller more effective government, there are too many bullshit redundant agencies of the government that do nothing! Get rid of income tax, abolish the IRS, save a massive amount by kicking those parasites off the taxpayers backs. A reasonable flat tax on all purchases insures all pay their fair share, including the pan handlers on the street corners. Abolish the ATF, they are a redundant agency, totally unnecessary, a parasite for sure on the backs of the taxpayers. If we ran our own household budgets like the government, we would be not only bankrupt, but probably in jail for fraud! The taxing ways of our large obese government is fraud in itself. They talk about a "surplus" and yet we still have a large deficit they hold over us. It is all a scam the government is playing on us. They are "giving" us nothing! So don't spend your money just yet, they will get it back.

Yep...the gov't will spend some 33 TRILLION dollars of our money over the next 10 years.  But Puff Daschle is on TV everyday saying how bad the 1.35 trillion dollar tax cut is.  It is a mere pitance.  1.35 trillion....it's a joke.  It is a start of what needs to happen every year.  Not just once over 10 years.  The Socialists are already saying they will try and repeal parts of this bill.  You can bet your ass it will never be carried out over the 10 years.

I'm with you luckydog!  But I have one question,  Last year I adopted newborn twins and was able to deduct all of my expenses from the adoption off of my tax bill and ended up recieving all the taxes I paid in last year.  What I am wondering is will I still be "getting" one of these checks from our Uncle?

I told my wife not to count her chickens yet but if we do maybe I'll pick up one of those Global Trades AK's!

At one time, the minimum barrel lenght used to be 20".  It took 10 years to lower to 16".

I just can't wait to get some of MY hard-earned money back from the black-hole(this an object in outer space that absorbs everything around it, including light because it is super dense matter from a collapsed star) of a govt.

Demo-commies will screw it up before we ever see it.  If we ever do, of course we'll probably have to pay state & federal income tax on it.

Besides the rebate, it would be nice to see a reduced tax rate percentage.  Under Reagan, the max Fed rate was 18%, now we are at 38%.  Part was to pay off the debt to beat the USSR, but that's still to high.

Lets see I paid $24,000 in Federal tax last year. A friend of mine paid none. We both get a $300 refund. So he gets a check for $300 and he paid no taxes at all.  Where is that money coming from? Sounds like the socialist had a big say in how this money would be distributed.

Thank you GW for keeping one of your campaign promises, something we haven't seen in a while. Now if we could find a way to drill in Alaska and off the coast of Florida.

that should help pay for a good start on a match rifle. after paying every year the taxes suck. hope to break even next year with the help of the tax cuts and a little better tax deferred income. but what just pisses me off is that a few women my wife works with that don't make over $15 grand a year and have a couple of out of wedlock kids, on assistance, living allowance and they get back a couple of grand a year. that just kills me and when I hear that stuff it drives me wild. lets see pay my taxes, pay the interest on a home and pay big time at tax time. or go out and have two or three kids by different fathers and get paid by the state to support them and then get that great bonus at tax time for being stupid. man where did my life go so wrong. I can see why every one of them is a democrat, free money!!!!!

I don't care much about the "rebate", i.e. retroactive tax cut.  The lower RATES are going to make a lot more difference to me.  The cost of processing those rebate checks isn't worth it IMHO.  It costs money every time the money changes hands.

However, I will probably apply my $300 toward the purchase of a Ruger Mark II Pistol (KMK-678 or similar).  I want a handgun that shoots cheap ammo reliably.

I thought the full force of the tax cut will be felt in 5 or 6 years.  Who knows what the fiscal situation will be then?  The effects will come into force, then.  Too long for me.

What I would like the see is the abolition of the tax on interest income and capital gains taxes.

Cutting the capital gains taxes will give incentives to entrepreneurs, and getting rid of the tax on interest will give incentive to save money...which can be used to fund entrepreneurs...who will create jobs and wealth.  This tax cut could go into effect immediately and would tremendously help in pulling us out of these economic doldrums. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Plus retirees will get to keep more of their money, which are often tied up in fixed income investments.

Tax rebate = gimmick.  What better way to cement the idea that the government has full power to decide how to redistribute wealth in this country?

Plus, I made a huge IRA contribution and ended up paying no federal income tax this year.  Do I deserve to get a $300 check?  NO WAY!

Anyways, the state will raise taxes this year for sure, either directly or indirectly using fees, surcharges, or whatever new name they go by these days.  The end result will be zero, nothing.  Government is as big as ever.
