If my pet was sick, I would take it to a vet. If it is determined that the best answer is for the animal to be euthanized, they offer that service.

Should I spend $900 on an outdoor cat my daughter raised from a kitten, or let it go to the woods to die, or spend money to put it down, or just give it a .22 round and put it out of it's misery as enough money was already spent? She was tearful last night over the news, and has spent today making pictures to place on the cats grave, and knows if she sees her coming around the house to say her goodbyes.  FID is cat AIDS not COVID. |

The vet will run you $100-200 bucks. I took my cat to the vet, he went peacefully in my arms.

Don't shoot it if your squeemish. When you shoot a cat they flop around like an uncoiling spring. I use a 12ga, I saw my brother try to put a cat down with a 22 to the head. It moved a bit and the jaw came off and started running. For most people I'd recommend having the vet do it.

Growing up very rural and relatively poor in a farming environment we put down very sick pets or livestock at home.
It's not fun, it's not easy; however, you can do it in a way that both you and your animal retains their dignity. Take it a can of tuna or something so that it is distracted and chill and dispatch it with a .22 in the back of the head. Box it up and bury it. Don't let it suffer if it's time to put it down put it down. |

You all sure have bad luck with animals. You should consider adopting leftist politicians instead.
I'd pay the vet to do it cleanly and humanely. If for some reason that were not available I would go for massive overkill. Like 00 buckshot to completely destroy the CNS and ensure a humane if messy death.

You could use helium/nitrogen in a clear bag. It’s peaceful. Don’t use too big of a bag or too much helium. Nothing makes the news faster than a cat in a clear bag floating above the houses in the neighborhood.
I have put down a few with a 22lr and if you don’t hit them just right, it’s a bit noisy as they flop around. Traumatic for both of us, slightly more lasting on my side. And do it at night with no kids around. Best for them to just wake up with your pet gone and buried. Any mention of a firearm can and will be used against you by your ex-wife, MIL or kids. Never seem to know what impressions stick with them. |

I just do it with a .22.
Make sure you put the shot where it needs to go. I’ve seen animals expire slowly and it can be unpleasant, but with my last cat it was the most humane option, and I’ve had practice. Pro tip, dig the hole first. |

FIV is "feline AIDS", a lentivirus. Not the same as human AIDS. To answer the OP's question, take the cat to the vet for euthanasia. Remdesivir is not approved for FIP but I have had clients use it after getting it on the black market. From what I heard, it costs more than $900 but has seen some success. Not guaranteed though. |

I know the assholes on arfcom are going to tell you let it die or shoot it, but it's your daughter's pet.
Either try the black market cure or call Lap of Love. They will come out to your house and euthanize her. It's much better than dragging the daughter and cat to the vet to do the same. Have the vet do it. The vets we have used in the past for cats, dogs, and horses do an excellent job. The animal is first sedated so that it effectively drifts off to sleep, then the euthanizing agent is given.

I don't know how old your daughter is, but now is an amazing opportunity to teach her about the cycle of life, and how to show love and compassion to the dying. It's also important to let her know that death is not an enemy, but an old friend to all of us. The $100 at the vet could result in priceless life lessons on loss and coping.
