I have posted some cool photos of some of his toys while visiting with him and his wife in the past. Its time for another road trip soon me thinks.
Seems Ron bought himself an A6M3 Zero to toodle around in. Attached File Rare Japanese A6M3 Zero Lands at Fagen Fighters WWII Museum |

Neat. Got to see one at an air show once.
I remember thinking. "This is not enough plane for me to be comfortable flying it." |
|
Is that an actual zero or one of the converted T6’s that CAF uses

Never mind. Poor taste.
ETA: That’s awesome. I’d love to fly that. |

Quoted: Cool! When I took this picture, this was the only flying one in existence. Mid '80's Chino CA., planes of fame airshow. https://i.postimg.cc/9XGSg0Yd/IMG-20160301-165622.jpg View Quote I own a tiny shard of that plane. I just thought it would be neat to own a small piece of a Zero and it was cheap from the museum. |

Quoted: Like, a real one? Not a T-6 modified one? View Quote A real one... I will give him a call tomorrow and bug him about the details and see what engine is in it. Knowing Ron it is as close to original as he can get. He is a stickler for details. I am not sure if there are many Sakae engines alive today. As of now... I know of one. |

Very nice!
It seems there are still people with some money out there. One of my friends just bought a Staggerwing, here's a pic of it in our hangar. Attached File |

P&W engine? The only one that I recall with an original Sakei engine is the Planes of Fame. If you want to see some kick ass illustrations of WW2 fighters check out illustrator Rikyu Watanabe

Decades ago, my uncle told me, WW2 vet, Pacific, that the Japanese Zero copied the design of the plane that Howard Hughes won a speed record with. I believe it was the plane he crash landed in the bean field in Orange County,Califonia….My father saw that, and rode his motorcycle up to the plane, as Hughes was standing next to it.
Uncle also stated that the Zero could out gun our planes, as the Zero was armed with 20mm cannon, while we used the 50 cal machine guns. |

I wonder if that was part of the Paul Allen collection. Sadly his Flying Heritage Museum is being liquidated.
