I'll start...

When doing Bondo, don't feel it with your bare hand.  Use a hanky/bandana between your skin and bodywork.  Not being able to feel the surface finish differences on the body helps a ton in determining high and low spots.

This one I thought was obvious but I never see it mentioned anywhere or talked about online....

When setting rockers, just bump the starter until the lifter is on the heel of the cam.  Tighten down and/or set lash. Done.  Next valve.  No messing with hand turning the motor, getting it to TDC, bouncing all over to different valves or doing it running.

Use a short section of 3/8 hose mashed onto the insulator of a spark plug to thread it into the cylinder head.  Can make bends and keeps your hands/fingers away from screaming hot header primaries.  Still gotta torque them of course, but the hose trick makes getting them in and out a breeze

You pick her up and take her for a nice, not fancy, meal at a place with a lively atmosphere. Get her one the dance floor for a few rounds and then tell her you know a great place to look at the stars. Once you get there tell her the view is really nice through the T top if she just leans her seat all the way back....

My mom had 4 young kids at the time.
Drove a 1960’s Pontiac wagon.

When the car would not  start she had a screw driver to  manipulate the choke to get it started.
That was 50 years ago and just remembered that.

19 years old, taking my now wife to the farm show in Harrisburg, and my heater core puked all over her feet.  Ripped off the heater hoses and used a deep well socket to bridge them.

I know!  LOL

I scrounged around and found some Mobil1 in the work box,  A broken sawsall blade on the floor, a broken flat blade screw driver in the box and a trailer lock pin in the door pocket.  And the holy grail!  The dolly with metal casters!  The rest was history!

At least the engineers were kind enough at GM to make the pulley self removing when the bearing seizes.

Came to post this. Struggled for hours after on the #7 cylinder after changing the other 7. Dad came out and showed me that truck and was done 10 minutes later.

Plastic shopping bag over the oil filter to help contain the mess.

A more recent problem i encountered and got an old school tip to try and fix: wasn’t getting fuel at the carb. Neighbor had me charge the tank with air, which led me to find the leak in the fuel line causing my issue.

The rocker thing is literally SOP for doing valve lash on a race motor. The bondo thing kinda doesn't make sense tho.

This doesnt work.

Give it a quick spray of another color primer and sand it.  The uneven spots will magically reveal themselves.

Everyone who says they can "feel" high/low spots is revealed to be a liar the moment that gloss black or midnight blue paint goes on.  Waves all down the side of the car.

Speaking of... if you're an amatuer - go with a light color paint.  White is a good choice.  Hides all the shoddy body work.
