While Vietnam raged on GW Bush joined the Air Guard effectively keeping him from combat...which he sought to avoid..he missed the mandatory meetings that for most everybody else resulted in activation...and in some cases duty in combat...pulling family politcal strings..he avoided his responsibility
Dan Quail...managed to hide in the National Guard ..and avoid combat that his peers without political connections and those who felt their obligation to their countrymen of paramount importance refused to avoid
Al Gore...went to Vietnam and enjoyed his protected status as a child of the elite having a personal body guard assigned to him then his family connections ended his tour early returning him home safely

One thing the former and later have in common is that they decide to balance the budget on the  backs of disabled Veterans...
VA health care is second and often third rate...when given the choice of where doctors and nurses who are employed by the VA ..seek health care..you couldnt get them to accept care for themselves or their families in a VA facility...(with a few acceptions)..Equipment hasnt been kept up to date...medications are denied and generally combat wounded veterans recieve substandard care compared to those whose insurance warrants them prime care in civilian hospitals..congressmen senators and federal judges recieve top notch health care..from the finest medical facilities...justice???..So on this day of fancy speeches of the sacrifices of the dead
let us remember the living..who gave up their youth..their eyes their spines their limbs
who at the ages of 17 and 18 never returned to normal lives of work and sweethearts
and jobs and children..never to see or walk or hold hands with a loved one or had a child call them daddy and sit on their laps to be comforted..they gave all..and now Bush wants to deny them the basic care they  deserve..by cutting VA health care..Here is the story of one of the "Frozen Chosin" who I think deserves better perhaps you are one of those who thinks not...In which case I hope we never meet

Amen brother, I've seen the care given to my relatives that served in WWII, and Korea go down the slippery slopes. I have only distain bordering on wanting vengence against those that profess caring, but vote to and write out vet's rights. Those that you mentioned are only the tip of the gutless elite who want nothing but absolute power and control over each of us. Gun control is the means of stripping us of our ability to resist, the sheeple don't care until they are herded into the ovens. Our veterans have been fed a line of shit through the years until they have to use what they were promised, and then it is not there. It's time to wake up to the fact that there is a giant conspiracy of evil to deprive all of us of the great concept that God gave us, and that is FREEDOM, AND LIBERTY, not oppression and slavery. Amen brother. Mama don't let your babies grow up to be an American soldier, because if he get's hurt he's in big trouble. This country shit's all over it's vets, and it's scumbag politicians should be made to go to VA hospitals in their districts when applicable, for their and their families med needs. Politicians should be ashamed on this holiday in particular. I wonder if the new Americans that make their way here give a damn about the price Americans have paid for this great nation.
I would expect they don't.
