aka Picard: The Shit-show continues.

The Star Trek franchise has a recurrent and rather annoying problem... Besides rapidly slipping toward the star wars end of the woke spectrum without a Mandalorian to save it. It's that every time the producers run out of ideas, it's time to bust out the Ye Ole Time Travel card to save the plot. If that sounds all too familiar, welcome to Season 2 of ST:Picard.

When last we left our cast, they were rebellious fugitives on a mission to save the Federation from itself and, by extension, all sentient organic life from the not!borg. Flash forward and indeterminant time later and all is right with the world. Cristóbal Rios is now a cigar smoking captain of the new USS Stargazer (I guess picard was so awesome in the last season they recommissioned his ship), likewise Raffi has decided to rejoin Starfleet sans alcoholism (or any hint of lesbianism toward Seven. Interesting, that.). Picard picks grapes on his farm, seemingly content in life while Seven battles pirates, yaaargh. Everything is on the upswing for our cast, until an anomaly rips a hole in space. Its the Borg... Requesting picard and membership to the Federation.

Of course, the Stargazer and Picard zooms on over with the rest of Starfleet in tow. And what better way to greet the Federation than to force boarding of the shiny new Stargazer, hack its computer and attempt to take control of the entire on-site fleet! So far, things are not overly horrible in terms of plot. The happily ever after conclusion from Season 1 grates a bit and so does Rios smoking a damn cigar on the bridge (i'm sure we can 'splain that away with technology of some sort), but overall the series hasn't gone out of its way to offend the viewer... Until it does. Picard auto-destructs the Stargazer and in a flash, reality changes. He's back at his vineyard in a very sinister black uniform. That, and withering harvest are your first clues something has gone horribly wrong.

Well, that and the Presence of Tom John Delancy.

As an aside, i never appreciated his acting ability growing up with the TNG. I always saw his character as a too convenient plot mcguffin for when creative ideas were scarce. It's taken me a few years to appreciate DeLancy's acting ability, who has managed to refine the role of Q to an exceptional level... unlike Patrick Stewart and picard, who continues to regress into whining self pity and growing incompetence as a character. Q has intervened in the destruction of the Stargazer, apparently by altering a point in time. This has had the effect of changing the timeline to a fan favorite plot-- the Dark Mirror universe. Depending on who is writing it, the Dark Mirror has undergone more than a couple of revisions, from human dominance to a species of refugees. Here, the human dominated totalitarian regime of the Confederation is in ascendance, having defeated all its major extra-species rivals. Picard is a warlord and the various human cast members are conveniently imbedded within the regime itself, with Seven (sans implants) as its president.

It's here where the series starts to go out of the way to offend people. Q treats Picard to a minor tour of this nightmare society where obviously ethnic (but alien!) slavery is taking place at the hands of the white plantation master. Let's visit the environment while we're there, portraying the Earth as a polluted, ruined husk thanks to man's abuse of the environment. Aliens are actively hunted in the streets and of course, the murderous crowds are portrayed at night as masses of white people cheering and yelling in blood lust. Oh noe, whatever shall we do?

Go back in time, of course!

Hey, remember something something about kirk and a slingshot and something? We'll do that. But how? Apparently no future super computer could perform those calculations, but Spock was the reason they could before and now they conveniently have a Borg queen as their prisoner... Wait, whut? Yes, apparently the confederation has not only captured THE Borg queen, but annihilated the entire collective in this timeline. I mean, i can make that leap after the conclusion of the Voyager arc, but it's a long reach without some inference to the event. The biggest baddest bogeyman of the federation was apparently a speedbump on the way to galactic domination. Fortunately Seven and Picard get the band back together, beam out of racist KKK land to begin their jump back to 2024... Which will undoubtable bear just enough resemblance to our current life and times to abuse the fuck out of social justice events, gender topics, racism and other leftist hot-button topics to be exploited for the next 10 episodes.

I'll probably continue to watch just so i can chronical how bad it gets, but overall, it's the counterpart to ST:Discovery-- the rapid destruction of the Star Trek franchise at the hands of the woke fringe.

Yeah nah. I'm done with Star Trek as a franchise. They ruined the character Picard and I have no interest in anything going on today. I own ST:TNG, TOS, and all the movies that go along with them on blu ray and that's what I'll go back to. I DO like the Abrams treks just for some fun.

This new garbage? No thanks. And I did give Picard a chance but as that author said, he's a whiny incompetent fool now.

You mean they went MORE SJW!?

Holy shit my childhood is fucking broke. ST was always about a bright future and the combined pull of good outweigh the negative darker sides of sentient beings. The first episode of TNG had Picard on trial for past human issues like getting biologically advanced humans hooked on drugs to fight wars. Picard even talks about how humanity moved last race, gender, and preconceived notions to allow everyone to push forward as a society.

Don't even bother. It's worse than it sounds... Literally 11 episodes of nothing- not even a hint of foreshadowing -and on the very last scene of the very last episode they're making eyes for one another.

Fuck that shit... I regret getting sucked into watching Season 1 after the failure that was STD.

I'll stick to just watching the reviews lampooning it. Much more entertaining!

It’s a trash fire. The first two episodes of season 2 are better than the entire first season, but I’m waiting for the floor to drop out. It’s such a trash fire that I’m expecting the dumbest shit ever for the reason the universe turned into the dark mirror variant. Once they get to 2024, I expect they’ll need to hack the Dominion voting system to keep Trump from winning and creating the dystopian nightmare. Yeah, I expect something that retarded as the plot device. If we’re spending time with the mirror universe, they should have shown the evil Enterprise tearing up shit like in the map painting. Humanity rolling over the Klingon empire and the Borg could have been pretty cool.  A couple lengthy montages like in Invincible when Omniman curb stomps aliens that keep invading Earth could have been awesome.

They did try hard this season of Picard. They tried sprinkling in member berries. “Remember the Excelsior? Remember the Stargazer?” This was still better than the copy and paste fleet of the exact same ship of last season.

It’s still better than STD by along shot. But so is rectal cancer. At this point I watch it like watching bad movies to make fun of. I watched Star Trek Prodigy the other day. It was ok, but not something I’d watch twice.

The only series currently being made that I genuinely like is Star Trek Lower Decks. They stick closer to TNG/DS9 source material and seems written by someone who actually watched that series.

Seriously, if you love Star Trek, don't do it. It will do its level best to ruin it and characters you may love.

Just watch RedLetterMedia's Mr. Plinkett's Season 1 review to see how bad it is instead.

When we have one of these Star Trek discussions I'm always reminded how many times I've thought that the whole concept of Q is one of the most underused and misused elements in the whole history of ST.

So now it looks like we're going to see Q destroyed along with the rest of the worthwhile parts of the larger story.

Of all the Q appearances, the Voyager episode "Death Wish" is probably the best.  Of course, they screwed that up by making the sequel into a US Civil War mashup.

Idiots.

My God... Can someone that's actually watching this confirm there really was a scene with a character storing something in a file literally called "Shit I Stole From The Borg Queen". It was mentioned on Nerdrotic's review of episode 3.

Please don't tell me that's actually something that really happened. I've watched Gary for years and love his content but there's just no way that's actually real, that Trek has truly become that cringe...

Hey, remember that movie, First Contact?

Where The Borg were traveling back in time to make sure humans never got friendly with Vulcans, strangling the Federation in the cradle?

Yeah, I guess Picard should have been taking Prevagen, because he forgot all about that whole thing.

The plot is so cringe, it's blatantly obvious Trump is still living rent-free in their heads.  A xenophobic authoritarian regime?  Well that's pretty far off the mark.

Uhh, she had an aversion to having strange men bang her and chick 69’ing her in a sex club. I’m as kinky as the next guy but that’s a bridge to far for my wife as well. Call me a prude I guess.

ETA. Actually I have no problems with two chicks scissoring or 69’ing. Just wanted to clarify.

You ain't kidding. I honestly think it's more entertaining watching the reviews at this point.

Despite that, at the drop of a hat, I would give up the entertaining reviews to have good Trek to watch.
