Hi.

Picked up a clip of FIve unknown rifle rounds yesterday at work. I was told they *could* be 8mm Mauser rounds, but I'm not sure about that. Each round is 3" 1/8ths long and 1/2" round at the base. Brass casing, black sealer on the bottom, and is marked "1945" on the bottom along with several random letters and numbers.

What I'm wondering about is if this really is 8mm mauser, could it be some WW2 stuff? (the 1945 marking makes me wonder)

Kind of hard to tell without a pic.

DOes the clip hold 8 rounds or 5?

It's all on a five round stripper clip.

I don't have a cameria with me, unfortunately....and even if I did, I don't have any way of uploading the photos......

Odds:

95% 7.92*57 Mauser
5% 7*57 Mauser

Does it look similar to this....

If so, there's a strong chance it is 8mm.

Does the 1945 marking on the bottom mean it was manuf. in 1945? Just somewhat curious....

Correct

Also, that 'silver colored' bullet is probably nickel coated.

Whatever it is it sounds like you NEED to buy a gun for it.

I think your right. However this is nasty stuff, and I'd have to clean the weapon every other round

What are mausers going for right now?
