Really…..

It’s a pig.

Sitting in my gun room and I’m wondering why.

My AR15 6 ARC does the long range just as well and it’s lighter and easier to shoot.

My Grendel and 6.8 are hell on deer.

458 SOCOM is a thumper.

I suppose longer range and elk, but my bolt action .280 does it better and it’s lighter.

Oh yes,  I have a ton of 308 ammo and read a bunch of threads that said it was the hotness in 308.

Should have gone FAL or maybe Tavor 7 next.

Why do you own a 308 AR?

Help me understand myself GD.

You should post pictures of it, and how much ammo and mags you have for it, set a price for all of it, then sell it to me.

Why put yourself through all this stress..

Because 308 hits like a freight train, and not all of the 308 AR's are pigs.

16" Carbine with mid-weight barrel is easy to carry, and balances very well.

Colt 6920 carbine compared to DPMS LR-308-T.
Pic from back in my EOTECH days.

How it looks today.

CMP "service rifle" 5.56 on top.
DPMS 308 in the middle.
Puny old brown gun that nobody likes on the bottom

If you don’t have a bunch of other ARs like you listed, a 10 is a good gun to have.

Easy ammo availability was why I chose .308 compared to other potential cartridge options.

Similar ergonomics and accessory commonality are why I like AR pattern.

I use it mostly for hunting deer, I have a 6.8 and it works too.  What I take out depends on what I think will be the best choice for that hunt.

Yes, and if I want truly great long range then I have my Berger 180/RL17 handloads.  No Gucci caliber AR15 can match that.

I ask "Why own 5.56?"

I couldn't give an answer myself so with the recent prices I got all the way out and made a nice sum of money.  Now all my gins are SR-25s in .308/7.62x51.  I see no compelling reason to ever add another caliber.

It’s a PSA Gen 2.

$450

$70 for adjustable gas block.

Shoots 168 accubond long range at MOA to 400 with 44 grains of Re15.

Still it’s meh.

I don’t own a .280 bolt gun. In fact, I don’t currently have any center fire bolt guns in my possession - I own a few, but they’re stored in my parents’ safe, which is much larger than my own safes.

I have an AR-10 because it’s got an identical manual of arms as the various HD ARs I keep at home - I’m confident my wife or kids could use it without additional stress in the event they needed to.

Plus… I got it dirt cheap. It’s a PSA with a stainless barrel that I think my dad picked up for ~$350 a few years ago from a kid that needed cash.

Come to think of it, it’s currently got a Sightmark reflex on it. I need to mount a decent fixed-power scope in it and sight it in for long-range work. As it stands, our go-to long range rifle is a DD AR-15 with a Strike Eagle 1-6x.

Get a FAL.

I wanted a semi-auto .308 and was pretty set on an AR-10 for some time.  Then when I finally had the extra money I decided I wanted something different than AR style rifle and went with the PTR91.

Now I wish I would have gotten an FAL instead of the PTR-91.  Don't get me wrong, the G3 style guns are awesome and I won't be selling the PTR but a FAL is probably the next gun I will buy.

Granted the deer are smaller down here, but 5.56 does just fine on whitetail. I’ve taken a few with it, and have never had to track them.

It's to compensate for being homosexual. I mean everyone knows, but it's just not as big of a deal as AR10 owners think.

I mean, as long as you're pro gun no one really cares.

Keep or get rid of, I really DGAF what others don't like that I like. Do what you want though, seems as though you've already talked yourself out of it making this thread in GD alone just a reason to invite shit posters, rather pointless unless you just like stirring the proverbial pot.

Used to have SCAR fever but sold both due to proprietary mags, destroyer of optics, expensive spare parts, plastic everything, obnoxious muzzle brake, the list goes on. They're still cool AF though.

I had a 20" Armalite.  It was a pig. Sold it.

Now I am thinking a lighter dpms genII would be better...

While PSA's are usually quality, I've read that the PSA AR10's are on the bulkier side. I suspect there's a reason that they are sometimes half the price of their competitors. You might enjoy a different make.

My 716 is a heavy pig, but with a bipod it would be pretty handy in a SHTF scenario.  Lot more ft/lbs down range than 5.56 or a bolt gun.

Someone once asked a guy I know who was Special Forces and now has a fairly popular YouTube channel called Tactical Rifleman why he shoots a 308 and his response was "because I don't squat to piss"

Seriously though, it packs a lot more punch.  Just try shooting an MGM spinner with a 308 and a 223 and it becomes immediately apparent.  308 ARs don't have to be heavy pigs either.  I've had a couple that were about 7.5 lbs.  You can build them sub six lbs if you want to get crazy, but I find 7.5-8lbs is just about perfect.  Too light and it becomes difficult to shoot accurately offhand.

Useless for me other than cheap long range when I can't find 6.5 creedmoor.   My Creedmoor and 6.5 Grendel are target, .450BM for deer season, .300blk for hogs, 5.56 for plinking and games. .308 (I have 2) just get used when 6.5 creedmoor is low.

Full size 308 ARs tend to be pigs.  My DPMS G2 is just slightly heavier than an AR15...and 308 rocks.

So SR15 and SR25 plus some mix and match Grendels.

I traded a Ruger Scout rifle for this one. Still undecided if I’ll keep it. I like .308 in a bolt action and puny 5.56 in semi autos. We’ll see.
