I have a 5.56 can. I bought it from a guy for $300. I would not buy a new can in 5.56 knowing that a multi-cal can will suppress equally as well and can be put on larger cals like a .300 or .308. My next can will be a SiCo 36M

My SureFire was Worth it. 5.56 is fucking loud, decent can should bring that down to about the report of a 22 pistol.

I have a significant number of silencers. I haven't had to "tune" anything. They all run great.
Yes, a 5.56 can is worth it. |

I have two 5.56 suppressors, and one 30 cal.
Worth it? It is to me. If you're poor and can only afford ONE can for everything, get a multi-cal can. |

Have had my M4-2000 for 12 years. When it even begins to show signs of failure I'll pick up another 5.56mm immediately, preferably a CRS.

Big question that I asked myself, even after I got my first one.... 4 cans later, I don't regret it. My vote would be a Surefire SB2 for your MK18. My favorite combo is a 10.3 with full size can.

Yes, SiCo ASR makes a 10.5" barrel not bad at all.

I certainly hope so considering I just put a Surefire RC2 in jail yesterday
 . My serious answer is it depends. I would not buy a dedicated 5.56 can as my first can. Definitely start out with a .30 caliber can that is more versatile. Eventually you'll want more cans and then they start getting a bit more niche. Definitely get a .22 can with your first order. They are by far the most fun. I'd also suggest ordering a can every 1-2 months so that in a year your approvals will start rolling in on a semi consistent basis.

I have a handful of suppressors and if I could go back in time, I'd not get the centerfire rifle cans.
-Rimfire cans are fun. -Centerfire pistol cans that run subsonic ammo are fun. -Centerfire rifle cans with supersonic ammo, for me, have been a waste of time & money. |

I have a couple 30 cal and a couple 556.
I’d recommend the YHM turbo, pick your mounting system. It makes a HUGE difference. Compared to my big 556 cans it is a definite contender. Makes 556 hearing safe outdoors. Forget the decibel chase and just grab a YHM turbo K, maybe use a shorter mount like plan b and cherry bombs. You won’t regret it. Edit: I have an m4-2000 and 762SDN and prefer the YHM Turbo K on barrels 10.3-16inch |

My can makes my 5.56 bolt gun safe to shoot without hearing protection***
***I mean 1 shot on a deer with no ear ringing afterwards. If I'm shooting more than a few shots, I still wear hearing pro. |

I have the griffin recce5. IMO, yes, its well worth it. Mostly for the size. It quiets the gun down reasonably quiet, and it does so without being 12" long. You can get quieter if you use a .30 cal or some bigass multi-cal suppressor. The 223 ones do a good enough job in half the size.
8.5" or 10.5" barrel with a 223 suppressor on it is shorter than a 16" rifle. |

Get a .30 cal can, it'll work fine for 5.56 and better on 300.
My hybrid is noticably louder than my vox, but I can't tell much difference between the vox and recce 5 all on 5.56. |

My Mk18 is my favorite AR to shoot suppressed. Runs great with or without a can, never had to adjust anything.
Definitely worth it IMO. |

5.56 will never be silent, not even quiet actually, but 140 dba is a IMMENSELY better than 168.
If you want silent, stick with .22LR or .300blk subs in bolt guns. If you ever have to fire sans earpro, you'll be glad you had it even thought OSHA and arfcom will not like it. |

I don’t shoot unsuppressed anymore. The more serious the gun the smaller the can I’d recommend, but still a can
The people saying you need to do a bunch of stuff to tune your gun also colorfill their lowers together at the gay bar. Food for thought H-ish buffer, anti gas CH (read: any modern one) and you gucci |

I would almost always rather shoot a shorter,lighter gun and I wear hearing protection with everything except suppressed .22 anyway. If I had to hop through any hoops to have suppressors I probably wouldn’t bother.

In a word: yes, especially for shorter barrels. As others have mentioned I wouldn’t bother going for maximum db reduction since 5.56 is still not hearing comfortable. I’ve personally been happy with my multi-cal (Griffin Optimus) on 5.56 for range and hunting use, but if you do high volume carbine fire a dedicated 5.56 or 7.62 can might be worth it.

I decided to skip a dedicated 5.56 can and have a sandman in jail. I did get a 5.56 flash hider end cap though. Might quiet it a little more but I doubt I’ll be able to tell

I dont bother anymore with suppressing an AR15.
I enjoy my Savage model 10 in .223 way more with a can screwed onto it. Its stupid-accurate and hearing safe. |
