I was surfing the AIM website the other day when they had WWII Russian M44's (7.62x54R) for a one day sale: $29.99. Tried to jump on that deal BUT they needed a copy of my FFL BEFORE I could even place an order. Needless to say, AIM sold out before my FFL paperwork would reach them.

Since I was a bit discouraged, I went over to my local gunshop (Wholesale Guns & Ammo in Islandia NY) and found some M44's for $59.99, same price when you add $29.99 + $30 FFL fee.
I picked up a nice Polish M44 AND a Hungarian M44...couldn't help it.

Now, I'm sitting here in a pile of dissassembled rifle parts, cleaning off the old metal and wood and bringing it back to "acceptable cleanliness". I'm having a great time doing this and can't wait to try it at the range.  

Anyone else out there buy "cheap" rifles just for the hell of it? The way I see it, if I screw up, I'm not taking too big a $$$ hit, plus I'm starting to like the low-tech, classic WWII stuff. Guess I'm a closet-history buff...    

I don't typically buy "cheap" rifles, but I would like one of those $60 M44s. Being as they are probably well built, I'm not sure they should even be called "cheap", just inexpensive. It's not like we're talking about a Lorcin, Jennings, or Hi-Point.

Let me define "cheap" as meaning inexpensive, low-cost, but not necessarily low-quality.

Building a behind the pickup seat scout now.Using a Romianian 44 with the bayo front sight and mount removed.Also cut the arrel back to the back of the mount,about 18 inches.
thinkin about cutting it back to the stock about 16 inches but want to try it out first.
Goig to get anotherandleave it alone.One of the best push feed actions on my opinion.Impossible to double feed.Not the strongest but plenty strong enough.

Also like the 2A 308 Enfields too.

Clean up tip use clorox cleanup and a green sratch pad.takes built up grease right off butt dont let it set on the wood to long.              

I was going thru a Shotgun News and saw an ad for .22 caliber Romanian train rifles for $39.99 at so I sent them a local FFL and ordered the rifle from, Wholesale Guns & Ammo in Islandia NY . It came with a Sling, Cleaning rod and some stuff (Brush and sight adjustment tool ect. Kinda like on a SKS. This rifle shoots circles around my stock 10/22. best $40 I have spent for guns.

I would lobe a .308 enfield or a Spanish mauser in .308 to cut the barrel to 15" and add the evil flashider.

Inexpensive rifles are the best!  You can shoot the hell out of them and leave your nice rifles practically in a mint condition.  

When I used to shoot a lot (at least once a week), I always shot my SKS, MAK, and Mausers just to keep my marksmanship up.  Once in a while I would take my preban ARs for shooting, just to make sure that I don't "forget" their handling characteristics.

I just got one of the M-44's on sale at AIM, got my order in at about 9:10am on Wed. morning, they were sold out 45mintues later, anyway it showed up yesterday, WOW,what a sweethart, I paid $10.00 extra for handpick (total before shipping $39.95) WEll worth the money Other than mismatched bolt, and couple of small dings in the stock( rifle has been rebuilt) it's beatiuful,  100% blue, bore looks new, and best of all it did'nt have a ton of grease in it! total with shipping was $49.95, These Nagant's are a bargin, if they ever have a sale like this again I'll buy another!!

 I too am addicted to purchasing full power battle rifles for paltry sums!!!!!!
 How many Nagants,98 Mausers, and FR8's can a man use? I do not know, but for the money I can't seem to pass them up.
 If nothing else WTSHTF I will hand them out to likely prospects, give them some rounds and tell them to shot at anything blue!!

You just can't beat some of the rifle prices right now. I can't wait for my Curio FFL.
I would rather buy 10 rifles for $1000 than trick out my AR with accesories.

I picked up my chinese SKS and my Enfield No4mk1 back when they were dirt cheap. I would love to get ahold of an inexpensive Moisin-Nagant. But locally they are realitivly expensive. Maybe I'll have to hit a Denver gunshow this summer.

How about the FA-MAS-49/56? I've seen some of these modified in .308 and accepts FAL mags. Kind of looks like a mini BAR.
