I'm in for the results, I looked on Amazon for one for the exact same use, and like you, found a bunch of "cat toys."

Son in law gave me this green chinesium one. Shot it across a large local reservoir at a wooded area. I'm about convinced that thing can burn tree bark at a 1/4 mile. Even has a safety key.

I used one of these
. It works quite well and is cheap. It is only $15 and I could point out things in during walk throughs that was 40:to 50 feet away. |

 This tripod can steady the laser. When I was lecturing, I found inertia could be given to a pen laser by taping the laser to an old wooden pointer. It was funny but effective. |
