Our day to day problems are nothing when you look at this picture and realize a lot of those folks had a choice to make...And either of those choices were most likely resulting in death.

Taken after the planes hit.

Did those windows open or did those poor souls have to break them out? Either way, tough decision.

Those windows don’t open and they’re very difficult to break out.  Either they broke when the planes crashed into the buildings or those people were so desperate that they broke them out themselves.

Remember those people. They jumped because they wanted to live a few seconds longer.

Or die faster.

In case one misinterprets that, if you are faced with the thought of burning alive, suffocating in smoke, being crushed and trapped in rubble alive & suffering for days, the option for a quick end to it all looks like the best alternative.

May they rest in peace

The jumpers and the passengers on flight 93....it gets real damned dusty when I see things about them.

They both knew their fate, and made tough decisions.

The flight 93 passengers make me proud to be American.  Damned proud.

For all I know, the air inside the building was scalding hot.  That kind of pain would drive anyone out an opening, even if it was certain death.  I can't imagine those last moments.

Has it ever been identified who this was?  Or is he the "unknown falling man"?

Nevermind - looked it up...

There have been several good articles over the years about who they think he was.  I believe the conclusion was one of the workers at windows on the world.  I read several of them when they came out.  I believe one of the families was very upset because, being very catholic, the idea their loved one “committed suicide” (quotes because I don’t believe that is what this was) was very concerning to them.

My Google fu is weak today. Intentionally.  But the articles are out there if you’re interested.

People often forget they were the first to fight back and draw blood, not the SF guys who went into Afghanistan.

I can’t fathom the hopelessness that could cause a sane person to jump to their death. Burn to death or jump to your death is a hell of a choice. God rest their souls.

Sad part is important details like these are being digitally removed from record. Lame reason given is that it's too graphic. Soon, kids will simply learn that something happened to some people that day.

The History Channel used to air a 9/11 special that had no music or narration, just the sights and sounds from videos that people recorded on that day. One of those videos was taken through the window of an apartment shared by two women. One of them wondered aloud why furniture was being thrown from the windows of the twin towers.  A moment later, they realize that it is people jumping from the windows, not furniture being thrown, and they start screaming.
That scene has always stuck in my mind.

They do it everytime.

There should be a montage of all the times Google has fluffed over meaningful holidays/remembrances and outright pandered to all sorts of stupid shit.

Bing has the background of the day (as usual)

That would be a very tough choice to make.
I would just stand up and take as many deep breaths as I could before I passed  out, no way in hell I'm jumping.

Tomorrow there will be a complex rainbow colored doodle celebrating Adamitra Ikunawale Mbutumbo's 439th birthday, the trans lesbian African tribeswoman who lined three rocks up in the dirt, counted to three, and thus INTRODUCED MATHEMATICS TO THE AFRICAN CONTINENT.

Or some stupid shit like that.

For me this one always hits hard.

FDNY Ladder 118 crossing over the Brooklyn Bridge on their way to the World Trade Center. This is their last known photo. Every single firefighter on that truck perished just a few minutes later.

Lt. Robert M. Regan, 48
Joseph Agnello, 35
Vernon Paul Cherry, 49
Scott Matthew Davidson, 33
Leon Smith, Jr., 48
Peter Anthony Vega, 36

I'm in Belgium, main news websites all ran series of articles all week culminating today in it being the headline story. I'm quite suprised, also my social media accounts are blowing up with pictures, memorial video's, people talking about where they were etc.

Never forget.

Beamer, Glick, Burnett, and Bingham were not exactly average. They were all athletes, leaders, and entrepreneurs. And of course, men.
