This ISS module has been delayed for 14 years... It was supposed to be attached in 2007.

That module has had almost as many problems as the JWST.

this sounds worrying: "Judging by the telemetry information, too high pressure was created in the fuel system, as a result of which the bellows broke and the fuel flowed into the gas cavity behind the bellows membrane."

The Baikonur Cosmodrome starts getting 30 calls per day to extend their warranty?
Link Posted: 7/22/2021 9:10:16 AM EDT
[#13]
That module is snakebit.  SEVEN tries to get it into orbit. Fourteen years late to orbit.   Problems with the propulsion system responsible for four of those times, then add this mess.

Astronauts tend to be almost as superstitious as sailors and baseball players.  Going to be interesting, seeing as Nauka is supposed to be their new crew quarters.

On a serious note, the warranty on the propulsion system expired in 2014 so they installed a completely new system, the new systems warranty expired last year.

From my reading the orbit should be somewhat stable until mid October if nothing else were done. After that, Newton gets his tribute.
The 30 orbit limitation comes from the fact the module is loosing speed and altitude. If they don't get the main engines lit inside the 30 orbit window they will not have enough fuel to reach the ISS.

My bet is this thing becomes a giant piece of space junk in the very near future.

I've here trying to reach you about your extended warranty...

I followed the launch live yesterday and was happy to see the successful launch. I was just talking to the locals in the barbershop today about the launch. This is a bummer to hear.

Russian news -

The Russian module "Science" (MLM-U), which yesterday successfully launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome and injected into the target orbit, encountered malfunctions in the fuel system, said N + 1 a  source in the rocket and space industry. To raise the orbit and approach the ISS, "Nauka" must turn on the engines four times; due to a failure, the module may not have enough fuel for all maneuvers, he said. The press service of Roscosmos reported that there is no new data on the state of MLM yet, information about the first attempt to turn on the engines may come after 15:00.

The ECLSS system (oxygen creation from h2o) on the Russian side of the ISS is a lost technology. The company that made it went bankrupt not long after the end of the Cold War and the engineer who performed the last minute tweaks to the system died without passing on his knowledge.

And they want to build a moon base with the Chinese?

Suppose they will be sending up lots and lots and lots of oxygen candles.

While Mother Russia hacks US companies and shakes them down, threatens world piece as they continue to build their military, which will most likely kick into overdrive once they own parts of Europe with the new gas line.  Despite all of this we still play this game in space as if we are buddies.

1. Components are made in Taiwan.
2. A hammer can fix.
3. It might be a nuclear bomb.
4.  Will need An oil driller or Apollo astronaut to fix.

The bellows are cooled by fuel, then that fuel (or part of the fuel) burns? Sound like it's bad to me.

Russia and China won’t be doing shit on the moon.

It’s just to pretend they are keeping pace with us even with their bullshit projections they will be 8 years behind us.

There's enough beer and brains in Oklahoma to build a nuke, we just ain't got the ore for it.

I promise you, if it wasn't illegal, and we had the right ore, some hillybilly with more brains than cents would have done put one together in their back yard just to one up their neighbor's last tanny-right party.

The gun method is particularly easy to build.
