Yup, although I think they weren't actually in the mosque, if it's the one I am thinking off.
I heard that there is a very old well known graveyard that covers miles near whatever the famous mosques is and that the military moved onto the mosque grounds believing that there were scumbags in the graveyard (which would sound like a good place to set up to defend from an opposing force with armor I would guess). Well they were in there and opened up on the armored fighting vehicles near the mosque with (I think) rpgs and motors and also hit the mosque. Anyway I only heard on the radio I could have it wrong. Unfortunately the press lies so much over there and much of the population seems amazingly gullible about any claim that makes westerners look bad. |

Yep, I agree with ya'll. If they want to hole up in a mosque and shoot at our guys then they really leave us no choice but to shoot back. If the building gets trashed then so be it. They should have though about that before then moved in and started shooting off rounds at our troops.

Exactly. The status of any building (mosque, church, hospital, etc) as a peaceful sanctuary depends on both sides respecting that idea. Only the first side to use a "peaceful sanctuary" for military purposes is guilty. Once that happens, any other side may respond freely, treating the former sanctuary as any other military building.

They use Mosque's as firing positions and armorys then bitch when we fire on them, now that takes balls.

Actually, more died after we blew it up and created a perfect defense for the Germans. It truned out to be a bad thing that we blew it up. I think I even remember that we never did get the Gerys out until Germany finally threw in the towell. I may be wrong on that, but I know it was not a good thing trying to remove them from the rubble. It was MUCH harder. |

Problem with Monte Casino is the Germans weren't really using the church until we bomed the hell out of it.

Actually we are all right. The Germans used it only for artillary observation until we bombed the shit out of it. Still the point is the same, it being a religious site should have made no difference in war.
