I have been given a Motorola MWC-800 (In car computer) for work and would like to install some personalized accessories, however there is one problem.... No disc drives are user accessible. The system will be set up on a "local network" using radio modems, and will have Wi-Fi via several hotspots throughout the city, but I think by the time this system is operational, the department IT guys will have already "put the lock on" the system, which wont allow installation of personalized stuff. As it stands, i believe I have an open system and no administrative controls have been set.  It looks like there is a 40 gig hardrive in it....

What I would like to do is transfer some Mp3's (you know, driving music for all those pursuits ) and some pics to use as desktops. There are two USB ports accessible, one on the screen and one on the CPU portion. Question is, how do I transfer the files to the MDC?

I'd try a jumpdrive keychain memory card

Go to the computer store, buy 64 or 128MB USB keychain drive, plug it into your main computer, copy a bunch of files on it, plug it into your mobile, copy the files off.

lather, rinse, repeat.

If that isn't going to work for you let us know we can come up with others (most of which will involve beg, borrow or stealing some kind of mobile drive, however).   Is there an ethernet plug?  You might be able to connect to it through a wireless LAN if a buddy has one setup at his house...

If you've got a digital camera with a usb interface, windows xp will see it as a removeable drive.  Try copying your mp3's to it.

Did that, but went short of hooking it up, due to the camera reading "disc error" when accesssing. You think it will read it when hooked up?

I think I know what you are talking about, and will venture to say it has one, but it is occupied by the Wi-Fi thingy card to the antenna thing.

OK, K9. If you want I have some 256MB PCMCIA storage cards. I can send you one and you can transfer via that. You will have to remove the other WiFi thing forst though. Oh yeah, you either need another laptop or a port for PCMCIA on your desktop.

Or, if you have a burner copy your files and send to me and I will put it on the card. Sorry I cant offer any more advice. Can you transfer via WiFi?????

One last question/possibility. Is it possible to hook a simple USB cable from my desktop (where all my music and pics are) to the one in the car? Or, I have a laptop I can take out to the car if the USB cable is too short. I guess this would be a "network" connection? A USB cable would be cheaper than a drive....

I hav to agree this seems the best move. I just bought a 120 gig for $120 it is USB. All you have todo is plug it in to your home USB and move what you want including any programs. Then plug it in to your mobile USB and the mobile will look at it as a hard drive and you can then run anything you like off it or download to your c drive on your mobile.
