I'll second that! I'll stick with John Browning and single action triggers.

I've got a Sig (P239) and a reworked HiPower.

I'd flip a coin and be happy either way.

Glock 26 with a G19 mag.

For me, either the Sig 22x series or any Glock, the venerable P35 Hi-Power was good in its days, but no more. Check out the long & steep feed ramp of a Hi-Power, which can cause misfeeds etc of anything except round nose-type bullets. If you had to feed a blunt or open nose bullet thru that ramp, what are the chances for a mal-function? Probably pretty high. Now look at the short shallow feed ramps of any of the modern 9mm pistols. Plus there are way too many moving parts inside the Hi-Power as compared to the more modern 9s.

get a glock 19c and then buy a 19 regular barrel for it...i shot one the other day with the 19c configuration and it had zero muzzle climb..shot great and they are reliable and cheap! you can switch out the barrels when your not at the range

As a designated gunsmith, I would pick the G19.

Ahhhh, yes, the famous Browing (no need for that pesky 'n' in the middle of the name) sNIgle action trigger pull.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist..

Oh, I vote for HK USP in 9.

GLOCK 19. Reliable, accurate, concealable, and intuitively simple to use. It is the finest defensive 9mm available and possibly the best all around handgun period.

Sig P228.

Sig 228, its reliable, I'm used to its operations and I assembled one from the frame up so I know it inside and out.

All very nice pistols.  I chose the Glock 19 because it is smaller and lighter.  It is no target pistol, but it is a very good combat handgun IMHO.

Personal preference.  100% reliable, fits the hand perfectly and hits where you aim, even when point shooting or from a compromised shooting position.  Delete the mag safety and you have an excellent single action trigger with no other modifications necessary, and you keep 100% reliability.  13 rounds of 9mm in affordable high caps.  Its my personal choice for a car gun, I have one under my driver's seat with 4 high caps and a ten rounder in reserve ready to go at all times.  Yesterday I practiced with it and hit a child's sandbox-type toy bucket from 50 yards away, even with my weak hand only, every time.  It shoots just a tad bit high at 50 yards.  And mine's a friggin $200 FEG clone, its not even a real FN!

The following is not a picture of my actual gun.  I just want these grips someday:

So you're telling me that even though my state d oesn't require it, the federales have balistcally fingerprinted my glock?  Don't go tinfoil on me here Larry.

I would prefer a Glock 17, but of those choices I would take the 19.
