1632- alternate history about a 6 mile diameter piece of 20th century West Virginia transported back to germany in 1632 (urr..), right in the middle of the 30 years war. bringing American values and a lot of deer rifles and 4x4's to a bunch of jacka55 europeans. probably appealing to a lot in this crowd. http://www.baen.com/library/0671319728/0671319728.htm

I read it on a plane once, it's pretty good.

S.M. Stirling wrote some similar books about nantucket island (?) going back in time with the population and a coast guard ship

Sounds a lot like, “Island in the Sea of Time” and its two sequels “Against the Tide of Years” and “On the Oceans of Eternity.” Nantucket is “exchanged” with Nantucket of 1250 BC, and the islanders must learn to live with very primitive (i.e., stone age and bronze age) growing civilizations.

Good stuff, and very SHTF oriented.

Yeah I couldn't remember the names. This book is almost the same story, a town gets sent back to 1632, Not as good but fun to read. There is a sequel to 1632 out that I have not read.

i like sm stirling, i'm gonna have to try that one.

david drake / eric flint also wrote the belisarius series, an alternate timeline for the roman age. the first 2 or 3 of those are on the baen site too. i've bought more books because of that site, it's like getting your first crack hit for free.

they have a non html version? I have a doc file of 1633 and am working on 1632 on a file sharing program but the source for it hasn't connected in a while

yeah, hit http://www.baen.com/library/ and hit 'the authors' on the left sidebar, 'eric flint', and you'll see both 1632 and 1633. there are pulldown menus there for ms reader, palm, rocket, and rtf.

I read those, pretty good. david drake on his own is hit and miss. There was some kind of books about norse mythology or something he wrote that were bad

I do have a rare copy of David Drakes "Car Wars" It's a hoot

Thanks for the link, I started reading it when you posted and now I'm on chapter18......I can't stop!! Although, I took a break for "The Shield" and "Tactical 2 Practical".....I just tore myself away now to go to bed......

Anyone know the title and author of the series of books where historical figures like hitler and caesar were waging war in hell in an effort to take it over?

heroes in hell- Janet Morris wrote it with some of her old 'thieves world' crew. 7 of them.

There is a whole series of books and stories building up out of the "1632-world". There is an anthology book ("Ring of Fire") with chapter contributions from different authors, many of them ordinary fans. In addition to 1632 and 1633, there is the upcoming "1634: The Galileo Affair" and "Escape from the Tower".

There will be a new parallel series starting with "1781" which deals with two chunks of 1781 - Frederick the Great's army and Geo Washington (and his Yorktown army) going back to the Roman Empire.

There are three discussion forums on "Baen's Bar" dealing with 1632. My favorite is "1632 Tech Manual". Right now there are discussions on wood gassifiers, the rubber market in 1633 and roof angles to shed snow. Cool stuff.
