This looks good, may make this week.

Link

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup diced onion
2 garlic cloves, chopped
2 pounds ground beef
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 (12 ounce) jars of beef gravy
2 cups frozen peas and carrots
1 (28 ounce) bag tater tots

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Add the oil to a large skillet over medium heat.
Brown the onions with the garlic for 5 minutes, stirring often until softened.
Add the beef to the skillet, breaking up with a spoon and cooking until no pink remains, about 7-8 minutes.
Drain any grease from the skillet then add the salt, pepper, worcestershire sauce and tomato paste and stir to combine.
Pour in the gravy and stir into the beef mixture.
Bring the beef to a simmer then add the frozen peas and carrots. Stir to combine with the filling and to defrost slightly.
Pour the filling into a 9? x 13? casserole dish that’s been sprayed with cooking spray.
Add the frozen tater tots on top of the beef filling, arranging in a single layer.
Bake for 35 minutes until the tater tots are golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

I would eat it. I do a similar breakfast casserole from time to time with tater tot, eggs, cheese and sausage.

Looks great. I'm more used to the cream of mushroom soup type, but that looks damn good too!

eta- "Hot Dish", it's "Hot Dish"!

I used to make it but I did it the easy way. Hamburger in the bottom of the pan, cover with cream of mushroom soup, sprinkle onion soup mix over that, put the tater tots on top and sprinkle some cheddar over it. Or did the o onion soup mix go under the cream of mushroom? I dunno, it's been a while. Sounds good, but I'm trying to miss the carbs.

We ate that quite a bit growing up. Tator tot casserole is what we always called it.  I think mom made it with cream of mushroom soup, ground beef and tater tots

Nothing screams trailerpark/redneck/country like a dish made with tater tots or crunched up corn chips  Also, any dish called "casserole"  is automatic poor person dish.
I know, I grew up eating like this

Dump the peas....or just get Sheppard pie.

With the peas dumped, at cheese, salsa/taco sauce, sour cream and chives.  Some people even add black olive and guac (yuck).

Orrrrr.............just go to Taco John's and get their Super Potato Ole's.

One of my favorite comfort foods and church lunch casseroles.

We put cheese on ours. Lots of cheese.

Ive also had it with green beans instead of peas and carrots.

Adding corn sounds decent.

My grandma used soup, I believe it was cream of sum yung guy, and green beans so I do as well.  OP's dinner looks so much better, it's on the menu this week for sure.

That's about the poorest poor-people food I've ever seen. Make sure to serve with a side of poke salad.

It's both. Still a boomer but my last use was decades ago.

That stuff looks like it came out of an early 70s cookbook.  No one wanted that crap, even then.

It's a poor man's Shepherd's Pie.  Without the good ingredients.

May be poor food but it's comfort food to me.

Made a few similar to that with a couple of pounds of grated cheese on top.
Grandkids loved the mexican recipe the best.
Between the Mrs and myself we came to the conclusion that there must be better ways to fumigate the bedroom.

The stank from those meals linger for longer than desired.

I'm making this right now! So funny that it's on arf too. It's not poor man's food, and it's not because I can't cook either, my kids love it! It's an easy dish when I don't have a lot of time to fix a big spread. I make mine with burger, green chilies, corn, and cream of mushroom soup. I put cheese on top too :)

This and of course it lacks lamb.Scalloped potato's and au gratin potatoes work well. My wife will make a simplified version with frozen mixed veggies, cream of mushroom soup, other odd & ends. It's not half bad, it makes a turd.
