My aunt owns two DIY car washes in AZ, she hasn't made any significant money off of them since AZ made it much more difficult for illegals in that state and her clientele dropped off. She and my uncle bought them in the early 80s, it's just a matter of time until she just shutters them and sells the land.

I was in Vegas a couple of years ago for a work thing and there was an international conference going on of car wash owners and manufacturers. Kind of like Shot for car washes I guess. Anyways, saw and overheard just as much weird shit as during Shot.

When I go to a car wash in the winter to remove the salt residue, they're not recirculating some of the water they used to wash the last car, right?

How long does it take to "change modes" like when going from rinse to wax
until the wax actually starts coming out of the wand?  As far as it being cold, lots of people "back east" wash their cars alot to keep the road salt at bay. My dad lives back in central Ohio and the local car wash near him is constantly busy. It's a one lane fully automatic job (Moo Moo Car Wash) and there's always a line in the winter. |

In New England the car wash places make a fortune because they put so much salt in the roads. The places are bare bones, but lines go out on the roads. The good places have heated water so you can wash when it’s below zero.
When I’m down in GA / SC, the places are much nicer. Free vacuuming, towels, etc. but they don’t seem to get as much traffic. |

Think of the how much more money that same car wash would make in Florida or a southern state. I looked into a car wash about seven years back, a single drive thru automatic car wash cost $100k and that was not including infrastructure. The top of the line car wash with all the bells and whistles was around $200k.

Sweet fedora! The coin collection doors don’t weigh 35 lbs. Otherwise great video. I’ve been thinking of businesses to buy - self storage, car wash, etc. Great info.
I’m a financial planner and have a client that owns 15 full service car washes and just sold them for almost $100 million to a private equity firm. Unbelievable how much money some of these can make. |

I did a bunch of work in the self serve bays for a company around here. He had a vacuum system to bring the quarters in the equipment room, used a shop vac motor and pvc pipe. to suck the change in to a safe. It would wear out the pvc pipe at the turns every few months. He pretty generous with giving us handfuls of quarters because we knew how the counting of cycles allowed him to skim, he needed to play nice. He got audited pretty often and never got caught so his system was pretty good.
The self serves really are pretty simple. |

A buddy of mine opened up an automated drive-thru car wash 3 years ago.
24 vacuum lanes, real nice facility. He has broke ground on another across town, and bought land in another town to build more. He's fuckin killing it. |
