We have a computer at work that we use to check on our suppliers inventory and order if need be. Problem is the weekend crew keeps messing it up with programs, porn, and other crap that has forced 2 reformats. How can I make it so that only Internet Explorer (suppliers using web-based order forms ) and PowerTerm( prg used by some suppliers to connect to thier mainframe) are the only ones used?

And how do we restrict what on the web can be viewed/downloaded, i'd preferrably nothing, but at the very least, no porn and crap.

Im using Win XP Pro if that helps.

Thanks.

You can have (if you have one) the firewall block all access to the web.  You can even be selective, like shutting off web access on the weekends.

Disable DNS forwarding.  For allowed site, modify the host file with ip and name entries.

If your PowerTerm program requires online access, find the ip address and enter this on the host file.

AND/OR IE has security and content features you can use.

TOOLS - OPTIONS:  CONTENT - CONTENT ADVISOR

If you've got some "bright" kid around on the weekends who knows how to bypass this stuff.  You'll have to configure them a limited access account.  Then play around with Local Sec Policies to limit sensitive locations.

Above all, try to use what you've got.  There's really very little reason to pay or use 3rd party programs for these issues.
