My middle son told me this morning one of the fifth graders has been giving him shit at school- he's in second grade.
I told him to do what he has to do to defend himself, but if he has to report it to go ahead before it gets out of hand. |

Let him know that a kick to the mouth once his aggressor is on the floor is a little out of line

I got picked on once... Laid the smack down real good and never had to worry about it again...

Oh, ya. In sixth grade this seventh grader would punch or try to throw my books to the floor as we passed each other in the hallway to change classes. The weird part is that I never even spoke to this kid. One day I got tired of it and decked him once in the face. He never bothered me again. The best part was how many kids came up to and congratulated me. I would hear in the hall as I passed, thats the kid the punched Jamie.

I refuse to answer this on the gournds that it'll make me sound like a pussy.

The only time- well, a series of times one year- I got picked on was when I was in junior high. When I would ride home from the arcade, or something, these two high school fuckers would chase me for blocks til I got home.
I tried to avoid them like the plague, but it was hard as they lived on the other block. One day they cornered me and kicked my ass pretty good.I tried to fight back by swinging my beloved Orange Crate™ at them, but it just pissed em off worse and I got it good. I got home a bruised and battered mess(this was the late 70's) pissed off. We had unlocked guns throughout the whole house, but grabbing one and settling it on Melrose never came across my mind. I went into the garage and cut two 14" pieces of a broom handle to make nunchucks. I cut a small piece of chain off a dog leash or something and screwed it on to the ends of the 14" pieces. I also mixed together gas, paint thinner, oil, some kind if gun cleaner and put it into a squirt bottle to use to spray them in the eyes(initial tests on the wasp nest failed) The mixture must've been too thick to spray a long enough stream. I took the nunchucks and placed them inside my windbreaker when I went out in case the two fuckers came a knocking. So, I was riding back from the pizza joint when I spotted the two jackasses. I crossed Melrose at Fermosa to avoid them, but they spotted me and crossed too. I shifted my bike into high and hauled ass. Jumped off sidewalks, dodged trees and all that, but I slid out on a wet lawn. They were on top of me before I knew it. I drew out the nunchucks and started swinging them. They were surprised, but still advanced. I swung the nunchucks as hard as I could hoping I would make contact, but one of the ends came flying off and all I had was a 14" piece of broom in my hand so I threw the other end at them and tried running, but got tackled and had my ass beat again I fought back as much as i could, but it was futile. These guys were 4,5 years older and outweighed me by a combined 150 lbs at least. I ran into them a few times more that year. I never told my parents. 6 years later, while I was a senior in high school, I run into one at a party. He was sporting dreadlocks as rasta was hot at that time. By this time I was 6'3" 200 and lifted weights regularly. I confronted him and asked him if he remembered me. Yeah, I had a grudge;cause when he said "yeah" I grabbed him by his hair, kneed him in the face and proceeded to beat the living daylights out of him. it twas a great feeling to finally get that fucker back. The other shithead, from what my sister told me, just had his beemer taken for being in arrears over 50,000 in child support. Damn bullies |

I would like to tell a story.
It was about 6th or 7th grade, or perhaps 5th. Local bully, pickin on me at the bustop. He goes to get on the bus and as he gets on i start to get on. He kicks his leg out back. I grabbed onto his leg and jumped backward. I got the satisfaction of listening to his jaw bouce off the last step as i hit the ground. |

I still have a couple of dudes who are getting beatings if I ever see them again. They were my Karma for picking on kids. I will be their Karma if I ever bump into them. It's my Irish genes.

All the time. After I graduated and went on to play football in college, I put the word out that if certain individuals still had a problem with me, I'd be happy to meet with them....

I got picked on once, in 6th grade.
This 8th grader would follow me out of school and beat the living shit out of me almost every day, I put up with it as some sort of penance for about two weeks, my Dad pulls me aside about then and asks whats going on. I tell him. He tells me to fight back, no matter the consequences, better to get your ass beaten up if you are fighting back. My uncle Robert tries to teach me boxing, no avail. (Guns everywhere in the house, never thought of using them to stop my torment). Finally I am walking into the gym, I see my bully with his back to me, taunting some other unlucky 6th grader, I grab up one of those folding metal chairs and hit him as hard as my 140lb body could, I mean a real home run hit. He goes down like a bag of stones, I continue to beat him on the head and upper body for a solid 30 seconds befoer the coach is able to get to me. He throws me over to the bleachers, where I sit, staring almost gleefully at the chair, it was bent up pretty bad and was covered in blood and hair. Got suspended, but both my Dad and Uncle were ok with it. Edited: I was suspended fo rthree days, but he was out fo ra week, three days of it were in a hospital. Nobody poicked on me again after that. |

Growing up, my dad was the town cop and the kid at the end of the street, Russell H, his dad was the town drunk.
Every Saturday night, my dad would arrest his dad... Every Monday morning, his mom would have to downtown and bail-out his dad... His dad would go home and beat-up his mom and all their kids... Russell H, who was a grade ahead of me (and 3 years older than me) would come and beat me up on the way home from school. He caught me on the playground when I was 7 and he was 10 and he told me that I was going to beat me up after school, so when that bell rang I ran my little ass off trying to get ahead of him before his class got out. I made it to one of the "portable classrooms", a trailer that they had just set up on the edge of the playground and there was a lot of scrap lumber left in a pile where they had installed the trailer. When Russell came running around the corner of the trailer after me I hit him with a 2x4 swung like a baseball bat about head high. He got stitches and a concussion, I got licks at the principal's office and they called my parents. My dad came to school because he worked the night shift and my mom was a secretary during the day. Dad chewed me out good in front of the principal and then took me home. We stopped for a soda on the way home, stopping for a soda was a big thing in small town 1969. |
|
I remember when I was in the second grade I came home after getting beat up for the first time. My Dad took me through the apartment complex until we found the kid I had been in a fight with. That's when my Dad shoved me towards the kid, and told me to "Kick his ass!". I can still picture me and Marty (forget the last name) wrestling arround on the ground with my Dad screaming "tear his eye out! tear his eye out!"
After that, the other kids pretty much left me alone. |

9th grade (freshman in high school). I already had the "nerd" reputation, and most of the look - skinny, glasses, no sense of style.
I'm still that way, except for the skinny part. So he's throwing spitballs at me, as another in a long string of minor torments. I give him a good shove, and he gives me a solid left to the right eye. May I remind you that I wore glasses - and they were glass. The lens split and gave me a good gash under the right eye. I'm told my head bounced off the desk as I fell. Got 22 stitches, and had dark blue sutures in my face for a week. No one got in any trouble - I was one of the "good" kids (and I lost the fight, so the Powers figured I learned my lesson), and the other guy "technically" didn't start the fight. One of the smartest "dumb" things I ever did - that was the end of that little problem, and while I remained a nerd, I didn't get any nonsense after that. ("Brisk322 can start a fight and not get in any trouble with the teachers....") Ran into one problem after that, but that could have been avoided if I'd kept my mouth shut. |

Yes.
I still remember a story my high school p.e. teacher told when he knew a kid was being picked on in his class. It went something like this: In one of his classes a few years before, a jock was picking on this scraggily kid every day during p.e. You know, the typical bully crap of tripping him in the locker room, throwing the ball at the back of his head, whipping him with a towel, spraying shit in the kid's locker, calling him names, etc. Well, one day the picked on kid had all he was going to take. He waited in the locker room until mr. jock was sitting on the bench leaning over to tie his shoes. Picked on kid seeing his chance, went for the field goal using mr. jock's face. Then while the bully was on the ground, picked on kid continued to kick the living shit out of him which resulted in a few thousand dollars worth of dental damage. Picked on kid did get suspended, but had no problems with anyone from then on. After he recounted that incident to the class, all of the bullying suddenly stopped. |
|
Yeah, growing up every once in a while I'd come across a bully or a dick and I'd be called chink and get picked on for being Chinese... (I'm half Chinese)
It's funny, but that shit really affects you when you're young. When you're young, all you want to do is fit in and be "normal". Really though, that's all I'd ever get picked on for, and after you get called that a few hundred times it doesn't really affect you. I think I got into a few fights over it all, but really I realized that fist fights are pretty pointless. Not much good can come from them, so I'd ignore the insults and move on with my life... Shawn |
|
All the time. It was often my brother who organized the teasing and bullying. I really hated him as a kid.
When I got contacts in junior year of high school, almost all the abuse vanished. I think I was picked on mostly because I wore glasses from 5th grade on. |
|
I used to get picked on all the time when I was a kid. Never a fair fight for me, but none the less I made the best of it. I usually fought with 6th or 7th graders when I was in 3rd grade. I always wore heavy boots, and kicked them in the nuts. Hehe, then while they were on the ground I booted them in the face a few times.

I didn't grow until my senior year of high school. Started that year at 4' 11" and graduated at 5' 10". I got picked on a lot by kids that were much larger than myself. I finally figured out in the 9th grade that if I was willing to fight, I'd get beat up once and the bully would go find a target that wouldn't hit back. If I didn't fight, I'd get crap from that guy every day. Sometimes, just being willing to go would end the abuse.
'Course it was a different time... When (and where) I went to school, fights of this type were all fisticuffs. If you got knocked down, the other party let you back up until you didn't want to get up any more. I was never worried about getting kicked in the head till I bled from my ears... |

My friends had a rivalry with a group of kids on the other side of the neighbor hood. I don’t even remember how it began. Anyway, it was like the cold war, never swung into full-blown combat just a few skirmishes here and there. Our main rival, let’s call him Sid, was pretty tough. He was actually a year younger than we were but we considered him a match in terms of fighting. Fast forward to years later, 1991, I just returned form Desert Storm and ETS’ed out of the Army. I go to a New Years Eve party in a hotel room with my g/f at the time and I have a bad feeling all night. This guy Sid, shows up at the party and I thought oh hell, this is it. We size each other up and we both want peace. Cool. Later that night some dumb drunk-ass chick opens the adjoining room door to another party raging next door. A flood of drunk high-school’ers immediately fill our room and a brawl ensues. There we are, child hood sworn enemies, fighting side by side to clear the room of invaders. We beat them back into their room, lock the door, and called it good.

The worst ass kicking I ever recieved was from my friend's big brother. He was about 6 years my senior and I was about 12 years old. It was because he always made fun of me and my friend and one day I told him to fuck off. He came over and laid the fucking smack down on me. Fucking pussy, beating up a 12 year old kid. geese
When I was a sophmore in high school there were all these black kids in my math class. These guys were the loudest most obnoxious sons of bitches you have ever seen. Anyway, we had a substitute teacher that day and these guys were just raising hell in the back of the classroom. I never said anything to them before but this time I got pissed. I turned around and told them to shut up so the sub could give us our assignment This black guy comes running up to my desk and he takes a swing at me. I got up and proceeded to whip the living shit out of him while all of his buddies were hooting and hollering shit like, "damn, look at that white boy kicking your ass". It was actually quite funny in retrospect. The poor sub was a lady that looked to be in her seventies. She was on the intercom screaming for someone to come down to the class and break up the fight. I got thrown out of school for three days for that even thought that fucking prick rushed me. free vacation!!!! |
|
i was a navy brat and moved every two years. on top of that i was a skinny kid in the "smart class" and had/have a big mouth and was a magnet for bullies. i made friends by being funny and by protecting myself and my friends from the assholes that try to pick on weaker people. from second to tenth grade i must have been in over a hundred fights. when i finished college i fought full contact karate in west palm beach back in the 80's. to this day i still hate bullies.
people who are aganst the war don't seem to understand that you can't reason with bullies and our troops are doing a righeous thing for the world. i have no greater respect then for guys like pat tillman (a better man then me...). |
|
Nope. I shot up to 5'7" in grade school and not only was very athletic, I was the third tallest guy in school. I've never really been the type to pick on people.
My soccer and baseball coaches had to get a notarized copy of my birth certificate because coaches of other teams didn't believe I was the same age as the other kids. I got into ONE fight in grade school-it was with the TALLEST(I was 5'7", he was 6'1") kid in the school. I got a real good shiner, he got a set of well split lips (my elbow) and a loosened-up knee (from my foot). Recess softball game gone awry. Funny thing was, in high school I grew one more inch-I'm still the same 5'8"-but almost everyone shot right past me. I used to enjoy basketball when I was one of the tallest kids, I gave it up in high school because I ate too much leather. |
|
Not more than once by any one individual. I believe in pre-emptive strikes and a fight usually brings it to a conclusion. However, there was one sufficiently big kid in 7th grade which I was pretty sure I'd have a hard time beating or even convincing that I should be left alone. I ambused him after school with a 2x4 and smashed his shins, hit him in the nuts and told him if he kept bothering me, the next time I'd do him worst. He never bothered me again.
|
|
Of course I got picked on as a kid. What else could possibly motivate me to become a cop?
|
|
A couple of times, but a stare down usually ended it.
Best one was when a kid sitting behind me in Sunday school was putting ice down the back of my shirt and pants. Little fuck made the mistake of leaning back in his chair with the front two legs off of the ground, one half second later he was laying on the ground after I pulled his chair out from under him and was about to beat his head in with his chair. |
|
I got picked on once by this one character twice my size. He persisted and wouldn't let up. Then he followed me off the bus one day and kicked the back of my head one as I walked down the steps. The bus driver pulled away leaving me and "Gonzales" in a circle of 12 year old boys. He pushed me around, me crying like a girl. Then he punched me in the face a couple times.
For some reason I still don't understand I jumped onto him grabbing his hair with one hand and passionately beating his face with the other. He quickly fell down and started balling up in a fetal position. I proceeded to wail on him with both fists (seemed like eternity then) until a neighborhood parent jumped through the circle, grabbed me by the ears and pulled me off of Gonzales. The parent took me home all bloodied up. My mother saw me and freaked out. Ended up getting the bus driver fired for not intervening sooner. lol.... Since then, I've been the aggressor in most situations...a curse that rivals being a pussy. However, I think every young boy needs to get his bell rung once before he REALLY appreciates how to stick up for himself. Just make sure he knows how to connect a fist to a nose. Also, sign him up for wrestling and/or karate classes. That way he can go Bruce Lee on those 5th graders. |

Being white boy "outsiders" "invaders", living in Santa Fe New Mexico, led to many problems. My brother also has red hair which sucked for him. Sometimes "they" caught my brother and I together, sometimes we were alone. It was almost never 1 guy by himself but a group of friends and older brothers against us. If we won the day they came back with more guys the next time. Once they had some 18yo guys beat up my brother who was 14, on the post office lawn. Most of the time people would just walk on by, too scared to get involved.
One time on the school bus my brother pinned one guy down and asked him if he was going to quit his shit (hitting us in the back of the head w/text books) or did he want to be fucked up. The guy bowed out accepting the mercy, but 30 minutes later a whole group of them damn messikins' showed up at our out-of-the-way house armed with rifles. My mother and father were working on the roof when they asked for my brother. My dad said we weren't there at which time they encouraged him to come down. He said "No way". They left suprisingly, having made their impression. One of those guys later shot and killed a man who tried stopping him from raping a girl. Did it with a sheriff's pistol that he took during the struggle. The story was on "Inside Edition". He got away with it. In the confusion the cop couldn't prove if it was an accident or not. WTF???? New Mexico is a rough place where the culture is violent. I go armed when I go and didn't want my kids growing up there. There are sooo many stories I could tell. Some won, some lost. Ever see a guy punch a girl in the face full force? I have in school..... |
|
Yeah, I got in a lot of fights in grade school. I got my ass beat and glasses broken when I was about 11 by a sophomore who lived down the street from me. This shitneck used to fuck with me on the bus, catch me and kick my ass if I was walking down the street, etc. I couldn't kick his ass, so I shot him with a ball bearing out of a wrist rocket. Hilarity, and an E.R. visit, ensued. No consequences, because the dumb ass was in MY yard fucking with me when I shot him. Mom and Dad told his parents that they'd press trespassing and assault charges on him if they wanted to get shitty about the hole in his torso...they opted for no, since they knew he kicked my ass constantly. He never messed with me again.
|
|
When I was a sophomore i had a broken femur. I had a rod in the leg without a cast. Anyway, one day I was walking up this short set of stairs, and this corn-fed moron pushed me from behind. I of course fell flat on my face while sort of landing on the bad leg in the process. He start dying laughing all the while his girlfriend starts giving him shit. I manage to get myself up and hopping around on my good leg, being in excruciating pain, embarrassed and pissed. I pick up my crutch, bounce over to him, push his girlfriend down and commence to beating the ever-livin fuck out of him. First hit landed on his empty head and from there it went downhill. Knocked him out. I got kicked out of school for 5 days. Had doctors appointments anyway. After that he was the nicest guy to me.
|
|
I never got messed with in elementary school, I think mainly because I was the biggest kid there. I didn't pick on the other kids either. When I got to junior high there were a couple of guys that wanted to kick my ass just because I WAS the biggest kid there.
....but after winning both of those fights nobody messed with me again. |
|
A friend of mine was fairly fat in high school and there was one dude who used to give him shit about it all of the time. One day the shit giver walked up behind my friend and knocked his books out from his hands. As my friend was down picking them up the guy kicked him over onto his side.
Later that day, my friend came up behind the guy and returned the favor. The guy was kneeling down picking up his own books and mumbling "you're a fucking dead man". My friend said "oh yeah", and took a football field goal sized kick right at the guys face. Broke his nose, and knocked out a front tooth. Then he proceeded to beat the guy across the face with his elbow and forearm. Did it so hard that he broke his own arm on the guys face. He got kicked out of school for a while, but people left him alone for the most part after thath. |
|
I used to get picked on in elementary school.
Whenever it would happen, my dad would sit me down that night and make me take "boxing lessons". Then I'd have to promise that I'd pick a fight the next day with whoever started it the day before. He'd send me off to school in the morning and say "I expect to get a call from the principal today". |
|
Hey dude your talking about my home town, I'm curious, when did all this take place?? Any one who never lived in Santa Fe or northern NM could never understand the 'culture', You are right it is (was) very violent. If it makes you feel any better, those guys probably weren't picking on you cause you are white, hell EVERY ONE got their ass kicked!! Oh, and just in case you never figured it out, if those guys were native New Mexicans, they probably kicked your ass for you calling them Mexicans or as you put it 'Messikins'. I'm not saying you had it coming, just giving you a heads up. Not every 'Latino' is Mexican. |
|
|
I was one of the biggest kids in school and (in retrospect) probably the meanest looking. It was the early to mid eighties and the "Outsiders" book was fresh in my memory. I was picked on once by an older kid, he ripped my shirt, I kicked his ass and chased him to the principals office. They suspended me for three days, my Dad chastised me then bragged to my uncles.
My advice to your kid is either get some sort of training, karate, boxing, etc, or play the part. Learn to look confident/mean, look people in the eye, don't smile, shoulders up, etc. Good luck, Max |
|
Yep, he should report it. Also teach him how to do a palm strike to the chin or a hair take down and a control hold. Bullies pick on the weak and those they perceive to be weak.
BTW, I was picked on by a kid who was larger than myself. He rapped me on the head and I spun around and punched him in the only place I thought I could injure him - his eye. While he was holding his eye, I walked off. The next day I challenged him and he backed off and was friendly ever since. It's not surprising why more kids haven't gone "Colombine" before. |

I spent about 15 minutes typing you up a reply but the server messed up so here's the short version: You made me laugh because you are right about lots of fighting going on. I spent alot of time downtown hanging out on the plaza and selling newpapers for "The New Mexican", and have seen some stuff! I was class of '84 at Santa Fe High. Left for the Army right after that. Should've said "Locals" instead of "Messikins". There's probably more california fags and movie "stars" there now than any of us. Daniel Martinez was the guy who shot the pharmacist at the corner of Old Las Vegas Hwy and Rodeo Rd. in 1990 I think. He ran to cali and they extradited him and he got off. I doubt if he changed though. What took you to AZ? |
|
Yep, this black kid that was three grades ahead of me(him 7th grade, me 4th) use to go aroud acting like B.A. on the A-Team. He picked on me for about two years straight before I snapped and when I came to I was trying to pop his skull like a pimple. Violence does have it's place in society. Children should be taught that controlled violence does have it's place. |

No, I was quiet, but known as the leave him the fuck alone kid. Those that did not............................ soon did. |
