HELL NO! Unless you buy a whole new PC, or upgrade the RAM/Motherboard/CPU/Video first!
Rule of thumb: If the OS was released after the PC was discontinued, DO NOT RUN THAT OS ON THAT PC.
Win98 era machines should run Win98 SE or Windows NT 4.0
Windows ME era machines should run Windows 2000
Windows XP should only run on PCs that were available new at the time XP was released (2001)
New OS + Old PC -=> SLOW
No exceptions. Microsoft hype aside, a new OS will NOT make your PC run faster, except MAYBE if it's a milestone-OS (eg if you switch from Windows XP to Windows XP 64bit on your AthlonXP/Opteron, or Win 3.1 (16bit) to Win 95 (32bit, mostly) back in 1995) ...
Disregard this, and you
WILL bog down your box, which
WILL lead to you buying a new box, or formatting your hard disk (XP upgrades are NOT reversable).
