All I can say is: WOOO HOOO!!!!!

From The Official GEORGE ROMERO website

"My fourth [thing that shall not be named] flick, "Dead Reckoning", is percolating on "high boil" since the [the movie that shall not be named] remake made 27 million in its first weekend. There's a very good chance that "Dead Reckoning" will go into production soon."

I still think they should steal my idea.

It's kind of a waterworld (minus the suckiness) with Zombies.

Think about it.  After the world is infected, what happens to all the people that are oceanbound?  The virus has such a rapid incubation rate that it would most likely not spread to those out to sea during the 'event'.  Unless a sick person was let onto a ship (why would that happen?) they are in the clear.

Now mankind must survive by retaking the land by force.  A nice aircraft carrier would be very effective...

They have an abundant supply of energy (nuclear).  All they need is raiding parties to resupply food and other perishables every so often.  Eventually they will need to secure some land to plant crops to ensure a future food supply.

Hopefully there are some womenz on the ships, or else this might turn into a gay flick as the sailors try to propagate the species...

i think that is kind of what it is about, although they aren't out in the ocean. humans are living in walled citites, and they make runs into occupied zones for supplies

playing off your idea an the idea of a couple other movies, the zombies, since they are dead, can walk around in the water indefinitely since they don't need to breathe air. So while the ACC crew thinks they are safe anchored away from land, the zombie make their way to the ship and work their way up the anchor chains... probably sounds familiar but it could work in this theme as well.

Is Dead Reckoning a production code name for Twilight of the Dead, or will this be a separate entity from the Dead series?

Diamond Dead sounds kinda dumb...

Also, I've noticed that DOTD has been referred to as "the movie which cannot be named". What gives? I must have missed the thread with the punch line to this...

There were so many threads on DOTD that discussion of it was simply banned.  IIRC, at one time, the first page was nothing but DOTD threads.

It is the title of the 4th movie in the series as Romero doesn't own the copyrights to the "of the dead" titles. I have only read reviews of the script, but the story is set years after [the movie that shall not be named] where humans live in walled cities. Dead Reckoning is the name of the APC type vehicle that is used as a transport for supply scavenging in infested areas. A conflict arises between 2 factions in one city and it goes on from there.

It's too bad George doesn't own  the rights to his own work.  It's a familiar problem throughout the industry.   Imbroglio, how many times have you seen the original DOTD?  I started with NOTLD when I was 8 at a drive-in next to a cemetery.

Richard Rubenstein owns the rights to all 3 of the movies and has been trying to sell them off, which is why [the movie that shall not be named] became a remake.

I watched [the movie that shall not be named] alot. I got all of the dvd's except that weird 30th anniversary of night that Rubenstein added scenes and changed the soundtrack.

Oh yes, there is a continuation of Day called Contagion that just wrapped up filming in l.a. and it sounds like it is going to be a real dud. Romero had no involvment, it was directed by some unknown who owns taurus entertainment, and the movie is going straight to dvd.

Right now I only own the VHS versions of the Dead movies.   I am slowly upgrading movie collection to DVD.  One benefit of the VHS is the audio is as bad the multiple spliced midnight I used to go see of DOTD.

This sounds even better!

Dead News : George Romero

"The question on everyone's mind when they think of the legendary George A. Romero is... "When is he going to start on Dead 4?" That's exactly what someone asked him this past weekend during a Q&A panel at the Comicon in Pittsburgh. "An agreement has been reached with Fox on the title of the new flick." He told the man. Now that the title has been agreed on, things should move a little faster. Production could begin as early as sometime this Summer." he explained. The zombie master also indicated that it may not be filmed in either America or Canada but possibly in Eastern Europe."

I read on Aint It Cool  News that Tom Savini's isn't going to be the special effects guy, though.
Link Posted: 5/5/2004 12:22:07 AM EDT

Well, Savini admits that he really doesn't do much make up effects work, besides his school, and would rather focus on acting. IIRC, the guys that did the effects for [the movie that shall not be named] are graduates of his.

I hope it does go to production soon. I'll be all over that like a bum on a ham sandwich!

BTW, for the DVD fans - I heard a rumor that a boxed set is in the making, with the Director's Cut of That Which Will Not Be Named. If you haven't seen it, it's got some interesting new footage. I have it on VHS, because $80 is better spent on rifle parts, but...

Crazies sounds like a 28 Days Later kind of plague. I prefer zombies.

If they own the rights to the first three movie titles, then he can't use those... but the 4th movie would be a totally different title. I'll never understand copyrights... Idiocy at its finest.

The idea of the movie sounds cool. Everyone has bugged out and walled themselves in, huh? Almost sounds like a Mad Max, post-zombie-apocalypse, where the wastelands are littered with the undead. I would thing, though, that eventually shouldn't they just start to decompose away if they have no people around to turn into new zombies?

Anyway... I'd see it even if Celine Dio was the star.

I really hate the title "Dead Reckoning"...someone whould purchase the rights to the other films and then let George use the "Twilight of the Dead" title which is MUCH cooler.  It just fits the framework of the rest of the series.

Have any of you seen his film "KnightRider"?  I HAVE!  And it sucked!

Do you know why there hasn't been another movie about "Super Vehicles" out since the George Perpard/Jan Michael Vincent classic, "Super Truck" (a.k.a. Damnation Alley)?

It's because they're poison.

How about "Martin"? - I don't know how many times that lame fucking movie assaulted my brain late at night  on Cinemax while I was in high school.

I hate (love) to be the voice of dissent here - but not every movie that George A. Romero touches becomes a classic.

Whoo, wait a minute...

Is that the movie that takes place after a nuclear war, with the big bugs and the cockroaches???

If so, that movie rocked!

I didn't like Knightriders, Martin, or Monkey Shines either. Romero's other horror stuff is good. He was supposed to write and direct Resident Evil, but the studio didn't like his script which was much closer to the game.

Damnation Alley was bad? No way! "Killa cochroaches"!

Rubenstein has been trying to sell the rights to everything lately, so it can be done.

That would be interesting to find out exactly howmuch those rights cost and why Romero himself can't front the money to buy them in order to get the right title on this next flick... figure he would make it back in earning on the film over the long run.
