I have a nice Remington 511-P blot action .22 that I want to put a scope on.

I bought a front a rear scope "base" from weaver that are made for my rifle.  I also bought an inexpensive scope to mount.

The problem is this, there aren't any holes to screw the mounts into.  What do I do?  Call a gunsmith?  Please help.

No dovetail?

Don't some scope rails have to be drilled and tapped themselves?

I'm not familiar with that model.  Most Remington bolt-action target .22s I've seen have factory-drilled holes.

If the receiver of your rifle lacks either pre-drilled and tapped holes OR an integral dovetail mount, you definitely need the services of a gunsmith.

GeoffM24, go to Culvers shooting page, Jouster.com(I think), and go to the small bore forum.  You will probably get the help you need.  Maybe even more than one option for your rifle.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm, glue doesn't sound so bad.  Maybe one of those new super glues?

I put a scope om my 511 which was about 40 yrs old.  It definitely needed a gunsmith to drill and tap the holes.  I sold the rifle when I got a 10/22, I wish I had it back, it was extremely accurate.

Don`t get into the "cheap 22 scope" mindset.....the better the scope, the better the shot........22 or not!.........[smoke]

Take the gun to any local gunsmith and they will usually drill & tap the holes for about $8.00/hole. Don't get a cheap scope, the 511 is quite accurate and you will need to really see the target. BTW glue won't work because when the gun gets hot the glue will let go.
Good luck  Ron
