 Dutch royal family had several DAF YP-408 Armoured Personnel Carriers attached to them in case they had to be evacuated when the Cold War would turn “hot”. They were basically the same as the regular army vehicles, but they had ashtrays installed |

I did not know that they heat-treat armored vehicles in the as-assembled condition! Holy shit that is a huge oil bath! Is that steel hella-high in hardenabilty? What do the tempering and austenitizing furnaces look like?! Edit: derp - I see one coming out of the austenitizing furnace back there. |

Used to drive / was assigned a gama goat 1985-1987, Ft. Polk.
Was fun to take off road, 6 x6, 4 wheel steering, not so much fun to maintain. Ill try and find a pic I have of it, one below was pulled from the web.

Me neither, but it makes sense if you think about it. If you weld treated steel, you lose the heat treat - gotta get it back. I'm curious how they kept dimensional tolerances - or did they just do all of the final machining after heat treating? |
